No 4 cylinder block insulator??

On my 2009 Hilux, there's a sponge rubber block between the engine and gearbox. As far as I can determine, it's called an insulator block.
What's it for??? Mine is a little deteriorated and the sponge is breaking down.
Is it essential? or is it to dampen the noise of stones hitting the bell housing cover plate (or whatever).
I can't find any info anywhere.

If it's what I think you're referring to, It's a vibration dampener, they're supposed to cancel out vibration from the drivetrain, they're not critical but they do make mounts last longer, and keep the NVH down (they're also ridiculously overpriced for what they are, so if you need a new one, get it from a wrecker).

I binned all my sponge dampener, Its also used for heat and noise reduction.

The reason why i binned mine is that they were brittle and falling apart, plus if salt water gets on them/ anything corrosive they are deadly
