rear locker or winch first? (more context in the thread)

Rear locker or winch first?

some context:
-car: 2007 double cab lux, 33s, alloy tray constantly loaded with a spare wheel, full toolbox, roof rack mounted on a ladder rack and awnings (sort of like here: https://www.duratray.net.au/wp-content/ ... r-rack.png).
-I do lots of driving on my own
-I recently started 4wdriving in the Territory, so driving includes hard and rocky surfaces during the dry season, lots of mud during the wet season, the potential for getting bogged generally, some sand driving along rivers and beaches, lots of remote driving generally, some wet and dry hill-climbing.
-if I get a winch, I'll get a new bar as well. xrox+winch will cost about ~$1600-1700 (self-install) and I've been quoted for ARB lockers $1500 (fitted).

Any thoughts?

Once your stuck it's going to get you out, the locker may not

Second on the winch it'll get you out of trouble where a locker will just get you further into it

I've only used my winch once to recover my Hilux but I use my rear locker quite a bit. The locker makes driving over rough uneven ground easy on the vehicle.
So for me the locker has had far more use than the winch but I look at the locker as an aid not necessarily a recover item.

While I have never used the winch on my current lux, I use my locker all of the time. The locker certainly makes 4wding easier.

While the locker helps getting you into and sometimes through stuff, it is no substitute to a winch when it comes to getting you out.
I might be wrong.

I get much more use out of my lockers than winch. Without a locker you’ll be using a lot more momentum to get through / over an obstacle, causing more damage. It’s great to have a winch to pull yourself out, as long as there’s something to attach it to.

Say you do a lot of driving on your own, would lockers or a winch give you more peace of mind?

I think that's the biggest issue for me, though I totally understand the benefits of lockers.

I always travel alone and it had a winch all the time
Came in very useful getting out of some places
I did not have lockers at all
When I fitted the two lockers yes do you get into places you couldn't with just the winch but when you do get stuck with the lockers you're really thankful that you do have the winch on the front
So I still say winch first if you go lockers at least get a hand winch.
