Firearm storage in a 05 extra cab

Postby thehairybeast on Tue, 23 Oct 2018 3:24 +0000

Hey fellas

trying to figure out a semi-perm solution to storing a couple rifles in my extra cab was thinking there may be a way to make use of the under cushion cavity in the back any thoughts? I'm doing this as travel between cattle stations working as a stockman and cannot be transporting a safe all the time as no room once the ute is loaded up.
cheers

I used to have a bracket behind the seat in my old work 2001ish single cab. There was threaded holes the right spacing that made it very easy.
In an 05 extra cab (assume we’re talking the 05-15 shape, so same as my 07) you’d have to cut metal, either top or front, to get a rifle under the rear seat. It’s thin enough sheet metal and bolted in and not really structural. There’s a gap in the cushions there so you’d see the hole from the top.
Replace the cushions with a (padded maybe?) single bench seat on a hinge. It could lift up from the front or back, with a lock on it.
Probably not pol approved, but good enough for the casual observer.

I have an '04 Extra Cab, and i'm considering building/buying a gun compartment over the metalwork for rear seat area. I'm thinking as low a height as possible, enough room for 2 firearms, and obviously a lock system. your thoughts?
