2012 Hilux 15” sunraysias

Hi all, I’ve got a 2012 SR hilux, I’ve recently swapped a set of 17inch toyota steel rims for a set of 15x8 sunraysias with 31” mud tyres. I had an issue fitting the two front wheels without rubbing slightly on brake calipers, so to counteract Ive put a set of 6mm spacers temporarily. I’ve been around to tyre shops and have found they can order wheels in, but it’s been a struggle.

Can this particular model run 15”s without any damage to joints, bearings or cvs?

If I was to get two new wheels for the front, would it matter if The offset was different from the front to the rear wheels?

These need the bigger rims to clear the larger brakes. Best bet is 17" rims with 265/65/17 tyres as both are relatively cheap. You cannot legally change the track by more that 25mm overall, and the originals (on 2012 SR5) are 30P offset, so the maximum change is down to 17.5P rims and it might be hard to find 15" Sunraysias in this offset and I doubt they will clear the calipers anyway but you'd have to try it to know for certain. I wouldn't run different track front to rear. The damage to CV's, bearings etc is the reason for the maximum track change limits. The actual rim size isn't the issue, it is the offset of the rims.

I’ve found 15”s to fit the front fine, but the offset is slightly different to the rear. I made the mistake of swapping 17”s for 15”s with 31/10.5/15 tyres. So I was hoping there wouldn’t be too much of a drama

Just make sure the offsets aren't any less than 17.5P or you are outside the legal limits and may void Insurance.
