Sound Proofing Cab

Soooo many products to choose from, looking at Dynamat and Car Builders Stage 1.

Can anyone suggest a Brand they used with good results?

I want to do the doors and floor and I cant work out how much I need for that, any ideas?

1 x Box (SD) 1.8sq/m 12 Sheets - Door/Boot Kit $99.00
2 x Boxes (2SD) 3.6sq/m 24 Sheets - Floor Kit $179.00
3 x Boxes (3SD) 5.4sq/m 36 Sheets - Boot & Floor Kit $260.00
4 x Boxes (4SD) 7.2sq/m 48 Sheets - Build Kit - Complete Car $339.00

Check out Tyler1993's TRS Build on page 8. He used a chinese brand and rated it.
Dynomat is the product leader so no doubt hugely expensive.

Ive used Dynamat and car builders stage 1 and 2 (on my old Triton) I'd say they are the same. However neither of them really did what I was hoping, I noticed maybe a 10% difference after doing the doors, back wall, entire floor and as far up the firewall as I could reach.

My experience was yes it slightly dulled the road noise, but then I just noticed the noisy Triton 2.5L more if that makes sense?

I would go with carbuilders to save $ and get the kit with the knife and the roller, they make the job easier. Change the blade in the knife regularly as they go blunt very quick and start to tear the material.

Hey Terror, thanks man. Great info.

I’m 50/50 whether to do it now.

I have a cab chassis and most of my noise is from behind me as it’s bare. Was thinking the sound dampening will help me there with a layer of carpet over it.

Hey Davo,
That stuff looks good. That would be cool if you can let me know what it turns out like for you. It is definately good value if it works well.

I was thinking of using FormShield, I used it for the inside of my Kegorator and works real well.

Anyone done their roof?

My rhinorack platform drives me nuts on the freeway especially when unloaded. I’m thinking of dropping the headliner and doing the roof.

Not sure how the matting would hold up, with gravity and the sun beating down on it?

I think the Formshield will be too thick looking at the pics.

Im in the same boat. I would love to do the roof but the risk of failure in summer is not a risk I will take.

Please do it and share the results.

My Rhino rack platform barely makes a noise. Certainly not louder than the Aero bars on it previously.

I've installed with the short Rhino RLTP leg mounts and the platform is quite far back on the roof to avoid wind deflection off the windscreen. To install further back I mounted it reverse to what the instruction said.

We are away over the long weekend, and was just thinking whilst driving, it’s probably more wind noise coming from the rhinorack backbone mounts than the platform, all those holes must be creating a lot of wind noise.Image

Floor rear fire wall and inner pillars are done.
6hrs from start to finish with 2 blokes and minimal beer.
I had one sheet left over so the above link is what we need in the dc hilux.
Hopefully today will see the outer door skins done in the gooey shinny stuff.
Having done the cab so far I would recommend it but its still early days until the doors are done.
One thing to note is dont push too much under the pedals. It seems my clutch isnt getting a full stroke any more.

Hey Davo,
Sounds like you have put a bit of work into it and got most of it covered, was it pretty easy to cut, stick and roll? Will be interesting what difference it makes when done on noisy roads.

I read a heap of reviews about the Ping Jing Stuff and all were good.

40ft PingJing Rubber Deadener + 26.9ft PingJing Thermo - Do you put both down on yours? I guess the deadener goes in first?

I did some testing on noisy roads, a lot of the noise is from behind me (cab chassis), I only really notice it when using hands free or siri. I reckon with the Ping Jing and some carpet over the top it has to make a difference.

I reckon Ill order the pack $215 pack like yourself and any left over do the missus car.

I did all of inside doors not roof thou. Went with ping Jing and then acoustic foam on top. Made huge difference.

I just used the foamy stuff on the floor and back wall.Easy to cut, mold and super easy to work with. https://southeastcaraudio.com.au/collec ... ull-sheets
one full sheet left over, I used a few sheets of the rubber on the pillars and trans tunnel.

over all It was very easy to install but not sure if the rubber would do a better job or not. I would allow 2days to do the floor pillars and rear wall if using the rubber stuff.

https://southeastcaraudio.com.au/collec ... d-deadener
This is the pack I used for the doors.
The doors were a bit harder to do and the product is quiet sticky and not so flexible.

I can confirm it was worth the effort, The sound system sounds amazing, Road noise reduced massively, If time permitted a full dash removal to do the fire wall with the rubber stuff would help shut the D4d down.

I used car builders on my dual cab for the floor and back wall. I realised after installation that most of the low frequency noise seems to come from the rear window. Tapping on it gently shows how much it reverberates. Stuffing the backseat full on camping gear seems to help the most.

Hey Davo,

I just ordered that kit you got. I thought for a couple of hundred bucks I might as well give it a go.

Going to line my Cab probably not firewall due to the work involved.

Its only when hands free using Siri I have the background noise issue. Engine is quiet.
