Reverse lights gone and ABS warning light on

Postby flatpack on Sat, 07 Jul 2018 12:58 +0000

Hi Guys

Ive just towed my brand new camper trailer for the first time and when I got home I noticed that my ABS warning light had come on. When I was reversing my reverse camera wasn't working so checked the reverse lights and they aren't working either. On top of this I cannot take it out of park without pressing the shiftlock button but I'm assuming that's because of one of the other faults!

Can anyone shed any light onto this?

P.S. I have just had an auto spark fit a electronic brake controller to it.

Looks like he did it wrong and shorted it out when you put the trailer on.

What would be shorted out? I've checked my fuses and all seem to be ok!

check both fuse boxes, looks like the brake light fuse may be blown.

Don't be too hasty blaming the sparky, but don't rule it out either, could also be your brand new trailer wired incorrectly.

Thanks for the replies guys. The sparky is innocent lol

It appears that my new trailer doesn't have reverse lights and when I put in into reverse it causes a short which blows fuse number 49.
This is a gauge fuse so f$@#&% up a load of shit
reverse lights
air con
rear demister
ABS which causes the shift lock to engage

Everyday is a school day, I learned something new as well as getting frustrated to hell

You will probably find the trailer wiring is for trailer auxiliary power 12v and uses the reverse lights wire in the plug ;) (7pin plug) and whatever is connected in the trailer is higher load than the fuse! Are we talking box trailer or camper? Oops just read the op and its a camper.... The wiring in the trailer probably runs the whole 12v including fridge etc so it would draw much more than a gauge fuse. Check with your sparkie where he fed the 12v trailer power from! You need to run a cable from the vehicle battery via a suitable fuse. Use the reverse light power terminal on the vehicle socket and you should get power in the camper. The reverse pin is how most vans and campers are wired for 12v supply.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.
