How to Check ECU fault Codes

Postby Kymadn on Thu, 03 May 2018 7:02 +0000

Hey All, Can anyone tell me how to check the fault codes on a 2012 Toyota Hilux Turbo Diesel?

I have searched through the forums but cant find any instruction on checking codes with the dash light. The only results I have been able to find is with people using an OBD device.

I want to check the codes because my Hilux is blowing a puff of black smoke after changing gears and accelerating.

Thanks in advance

Get a good OBD2 reader ;) or theres a cheap bluetooth one search the forum. you sure there's a problem? Sounds normal to me.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Codes wont tell you much - you need a mini VCI which will say you'll need to good clean your intake below the egr, perhaps a clean of the maf and the map filter.

Your injectors might need replacing too ;)
I might be wrong.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was going to give the MAF sensor a clean after work this arvo. My Hilux only has 130,000K on it so i would assume the injectors would be ok.

Ill start with cleaning the MAF anyway.

Yep all good

Usual change out for injectors is about 150k but a look on the mini vci/ techstream will give a good idea of their condition.

you can bridge 2 terminals (Te and Te1 if I remember right) on the obd port and the cel will flash a code to you if you are really stuck...
