gday guys been looking at bying a reverse camera as i cant see nothin out the back off my canopy when i am reversing. scared i will hit a kid or drive my car off a cliff. just wanted to see what brands you guys have in your cars and where abouts do you have the screen mounted as some of them are pretty big 7inchs... and also has anybody tried a wireless reverse camera? i have been looking at these ones at waeco

I have got the Swann colour wireless camera with the bullet (IR) camera mounted on the roofrack above the canopy. (Your DSE special $168). Performance... 8/10 for a wireless. Wireless makes it a breeze to install, but a couple of tips - don't cut the excess wire from the camera to shorten it - it is part of the transmitting antenna...and occasionally you will pick up the odd TV channel and 2.4Ghz interference (I leave my screen powered on all the time - it blacks out when no camera signal). I have the screen mounted on the side of the overhead console, clear of the sunvisor, so it is close to view, and 2.5" size screen is plenty. Wired camera will give you a much better image and without the wireless interference. Getting cable through the canopy to the inside is always a challenge. I used a brass, waterproof (IP68) cable gland to enter through the canopy roof near the roof rack leg, then down the canopy strut to the back of the tail light enclosure to the reversing light power. some pics: http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg23 ... hey mate cheers heaps for the pics and the advice i like where you mounted your monitor the camera looks pretty tough. i will go check them out tommorow at dick smith not a bad price looks like they do the job. hey i see your from kalgoorlie i was over there working on the nickel smelter rebuilding the furnace for bhp last year.. funny old place kal hookers and skimmpys..
dont think i like the idea of the camera in the rear view mirror. i can see out my rear view alright when the canopy is rolled up.. bet they are expensive..

I bought mine from Brash Imports here http://www.brashimports.com.au/ He sells a lot on eBay but a bit chepaer if you deal direct. David Brash was good and reliable to deal with. Hundreds of $ cheaper than anything I saw in stores. See my build up thread for pics on how I mounted mine.

I bought mine off eBay, I made up an alloy bracket to mount the camera on my roof rack and have used double sided tape to fit the screen to my rear view mirror. I love the setup and can reverse up to within 2-3" of walls and cars and stuff.

The guy I bought mine off doesn't have anything for sale atm.

I use the following camera which are really good. i didn't buy it from these guys however its the same. Colour, sound, inferred for night time view in colour. Then you just need some type of screen with a VGA input. I used a cheap GPS running Route 66 which worked well however the GPS part was crap. So crap in fact that it broken now cause I got the shits and with it and kind of cracked the screen so now the camera doesn't work either! doh!

I am now looking to get an all in one, DVD, GPS in dash unit that takes a VGA input. Just need to save the cash.

This is the one I got http://www.brashimports.com.au/butterfly.htm and got the dearer one which has a better sensor. I got this becasue it has a standard RCA video feed and I could put that onto my VGA monitor which had extra video inputs. the VGA monitor also supports sound inputs on the extra inputs, but had no interest in that. Shame the VGA died... and it wasn't me

I got a color reverse camera with infra red lights. They are the best when reversing at night. Can back straight up to a trailer with no help and hook up first time..!! The more IR lights the better. Mine is mounted just above the number plate, and just catches the top of the tow ball and step. Its connected to a JVC 7" head unit with automatic reverse screen on. Well worth the buy...

anybody tried those reverse cameras were you replace your revision mirror with the screen for the camera???

For those of you that have the camera mounted in the vicinity of your number plate- R the cameras able to be submersed?

even though mine is up on the roofrack, after a squirtdown & wash, the lense fogs up and I have to unscrew the lense cover to dry it out. It is supposed to be waterproof, but I don't think so.

Mine sits just above the number plate and I never have a problem with it getting fogged etc Been through river crossing no problems.

For us that don,t have all the latest,media systems , Looking at the reversing mirrors out there ,they,ve even got android on em,gps input ,sim card ,blue tooth on a reversing mirror .
the mind boggles .
Anyway have bit the bullet ,n ordered 1, Sick of punching out the trailer socket on the car,
Did,t go the whole hog and get the andrio version.

I have used these in work vehicles and can highly recommend them, especially as you can configure them to show the live stream even when you are driving forwards.
