Does the Frontier extend any further to the rear than the standard tank ? IE is the rear of the tank any closer to the rear of the vehicle ?

Cant really remember where the old tank finished but the new one sits about 65-70 mm away from axel, I have attached another photo to my original post.

did you end up similar to my measurements mate?
When we installed it, it goes hard up to the fuel tank steel support arm so cant go any higher. the kit comes with all the rubber protection strip you stick on and all the required parts to install. any one with tool can do it no probs, A hoist help to.

Not sure Doyta, as I said, I had ARB fit mine, drop off, pick up and drive away.

Just did a trip up around the Savannah Way through Ravenshoe via the Palmerston down through Greenvale then onto Townsville. Filled up an Ingham on the way back this morning, total traveled was just a tad over 1500 kilometers on one tank.

Most of the trip was done in Eco mode with a bit of Power added in.

I'm happy with that.

hey guys, can anyone tell me how the fuel gauge works after this tank is installed?

what do you want to know mate, it reads fuller for longer, so will stay on full until getting to around the 60 70 litre mark.
I have a scan gauge which gives me perfect fuel consumption, litres to go & km to go hours to go and so on.

Thanks doyta, after the 60-70l mark does it fall normally or quick and slow?

also does the fuel light still operate correctly?

definitely look tough from that promo.

figures but, those plastic molded tanks have so many benefits over steel - strength, weight, price, ease of manufacture, the fact they can distort due to impact and then pop back to normal.

begs to differ why you would buy a steel long ranger tank.

what are the benefits people?, i am unsure.

Geez they do look tough!!!

Pity they only do them for diesels

The low fuel warning light still comes on.

Sorry missed ya post, it went down slow mate, probably slower than normal.

Looked into those plastic tanks and they have no drain plug and they cant build them with baffles.
Also it hangs down a bit but even worse is it goes forward into the middle of the car a long way which is were I have bottomed out a few times on the chassis rails.
I seen one for the new hilux and it looks very long, I wouldn't want a 60lt drum full of diesel rolling around in the back so to have 130kg of fuel sloshing around without baffles is a bit of a worry and I reckon if I was a bit low on fuel and parked down hill or going down a long hill I reckon you could run out of fuel when it all runs to the front.
I know my previous Longranger had baffles around the pickup to keep the fuel were it's needed.
The pickup unit also sits on the bottom of the tank too, the baffles probly protect that a lot too, no good having a tank that can get hit and flex up a lot if the pickup inside is broken!

I see the longranger have a few different models for the new truck to choose from, might get the water tank and the smaller diesel version with more ground clearance

I seen a good picture on one page showing the ramp over angle, it makes a good point that the further to the middle of the car a tank goes it has a big affect on the ground clearance!

Yah but I think it is a mater of what you intend to do
I think the Longranger design that doesnt protrude forward into the middle of the car is better and has less affect on ramp over angle(plus they have one with better ground clearance than factory).
I also think looking at your photo the majority of the extra capacity is hanging out the front with all the extra weight on the front mount, I had a look at that and it is an outrigger style (not sure if that correct term) and only hangs off one chassis rail.
The loneranger doesnt use the old tank mounts designed for an 80lt tank and instead use the full cross member.
Plus the idea of a very flexible bottom with no baffles in the tank is not very appealing to me as when bottoming out (and that will happen one day) the tank will have the full weight of the car which could damage the pump inside the tank
So baffles and a drain plug are good to have IMHO for a bigger fuel tank

Well after two great 4x4 trips in the last two weeks, the frontier has come up trumps. I definitely smash it hard in big bog holes and no problem. Also the fuel gauge start to go down from 90 litres and gradually as my scan gauge says.
