New ARB frontier fuel tank

They are made to suit the 2005-on Hiluxes.

Prices from the ARB catalogue - 'Supply Fitting Both'. notice the difference in supply as well as fitting cost of the plastic tank! would love to see some pics of clearance, because i can see myself getting a tank sometime in 2016 - the cheaper costs here may just bring it forward!

Had a look at these yesterday in ARB Cairns, look tough as and as you've indicated, cheaper than Long Ranger and I think the $1232 price tag is for fitted. But as usual, still not for the new Hilux as yet.

What was the underbody clearance like? im kind of hoping that because they can have more complex shapes with plastic they got that 145 litres but it hangs somewhere between the 140 and 120 litre long rangers

Brown Davis has a 145 litre available for the new Hilux. Don't know how much they are.

Not sure Clampy as the tank was a display in the shop, I can ask when I'm in there next though.

I'll be putting one of these on early Jan. Will post photos in the new year. Unfortunately product is new and ARB don't have install references. The new product status made me think, but ARB are reputable and it has a 3 yr warranty.

Saw these a while ago, I have some doubts about the quality as they told me they are not suitable for petrol

The steel brown Davis ones are no problem. I was meaning the autoxtras/arb plastic tanks, I contacted autoxtras who told me they aren't suitable for petrol. That would tell me that the quality of material isn't there seeing as the factory tank is fine for petrol.

Unfortunately not. The bottom of the original tank plastic was about 60mm below chassis rail, the 140L LRT is 20mm below that (from their website)=80mm. The 145L ARB is 40mm below the original=100mm.

I've fitted half a dozen of these now to Isuzus and Landcruisers. They are definitely a well designed and built bit of gear. The quality is first rate and the actual fitting has been well thought out.....much simpler to fit than Longranger or the B&D ones I've done.
The "not suitable for petrol" thing is probably more to do with the ingredients of the plastic mix or the increased flammability of petrol...I don't know. The ones I've seen so far haven't hung any lower than a similar Longranger but make better use of the space above the factory tank.
I'd throw one in my vehicle without a second thought if I had a use for one.......and my ute wasn't petrol......

these have pricked my interest (fuel in my town is 40cents more expensive than 1hour 30min away), but i have a few questions.

do they replace the factory tank?
how does it transfer / feed fuel to the system? does it have any electrics
so we loose approx 40mm of travel height?
where does it mount?, does it go where the spare is?
hows the value here?, are their alternatively suppliers doing similar things for cheaper?
baffles / no baffles?
it says, distance to empty no longer works, is this just the electric mumbo jumbo, your normal fuel gauge will still give accurate readings?

Replaces the factory tank. The pump and all fittings and electronics from the factory tank go into the new on. Your distance to empty wont work anymore and your main guage just reads fuller for longer.

Fitted mine last night. 3 hours until startup with my mate who is a mechanic. could get it down to two hours next time no worries! has a page for page fitting instructions with photos

Pro's
145l, cheap under $1000 (well under for me ), very strong build I was standing on it trying to damage it, 3 year warranty
Cons
does sit lower than original tank but what long range tank doesent.

Measurements:
Original tank with protection plastic around tank measured from driver side of tank 63mm and 55mm next to the chassi rail.
New tank from driver side of truck was 108mm below rail & passenger side of truck (next to chassi rail ) 100mm below.
Summary
108mm - 63mm = 45mm lower
100mm - 55mm = 45mm lower
So the frontier arb tank hangs down 45mm lower than original tank.
