2016 Hilux Dust Defence Kit

General discussion of basically anything Hilux related

Hey,

I've recently had Rhino Lining installed in my new SR5 and if I had of known how much dust gets in I would have installed the seal kit before getting the lining done.
Question being... Do you think I could install a seal kit over the top of the lining with a layer of silicone between them both without affecting it's performance?
Basic instructions included with the kit?

Cheers

Quick question to those that have this kit fitted.

Is it worth it? I got all i needed from Clark Rubber for my previous Hilux, though its far from perfect.

With my new Hilux (thats not yet been ordered) I mentioned about the kit and the Toyota dealer had never heard of it! I supplied the part number and they came back and said it was only to be fitted with the genuine Toyota tub liner. Im not sure if the information I have given is accurate.

It looks like it fits up pretty well in the photos on page 1.

Its amazing how little interest some people have in their jobs, or are they just trying to con you into buying a genuine liner? either way, send them some anthrax.

Yeah i saw the pic on the first page but was unsure if the tubliner had to go in afterwards to complete the fit.

Im guessing as the salesman didnt know about the existence of the kit that there may well have been none sold in Darwin, which is especially strange considering the amount of dust up here!
Have already ditched the idea of a tubliner as i cant see the real benefit of in in a company vehicle but really wanted a proper way of sealing the tub as i never really liked my Clark Rubber option

Salesman is the same guy that didn't know what a diffbreather was, and didn't see the need for one once it was explained.

After buying a cheap eBay version I then went for the Toyota kit. So far it's holding up pretty good but I still have some slight dust leakage through the sports bar/hard lid cover insertions.

I'm guessing no-one in this thread has a canopy. I have a canopy and don't get any dust in the tray. I do have a small vent in the roof to prevent dust ingres though. cost $100. I believe it works by creating air pressure in the tray.

Yep. It's science! The biggest reason for dust getting into your tray is that the airflow during travel creates negative air pressure in the tray, a vacuum if you will. The addition of the air vent on the canopy at very least equalises the pressure, and may even make it positive, meaning the dust is blown away from the gaps rather than sucked towards them.

It's like the difference between breathing in under water vs blowing bubbles. The second one gets much less water in your lungs!

The seals work differently, basically removing the gaps. Both combined should work the best.

I wonder if anyone has put a vent on the hard tonneau cover (as opposed to the canopy), and whether it also was effective? (And did it look good, or shit?)

adamkberger, Hi Adam. New to site and saw your post about fitting the dust defence kit. Have just purchased a new Hilux SR5 with Canopy. Have dust kit and fitting this weekend. Tried to open pictures you posted on site but they will not appear or open. Any chance You could repost the pictures or send copies to my email address so I have a visual of what needs to be done. My Email address cowra_boy@yahoo.com.au. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Chris

Good thread.

I've just found it searching as I've noticed a LOT of dust in the tub from my 2x trips down a dusty dirt road going surfing. To be fair, I never got dust in the tray like this in my old MN Triton. It didn't have a dust kit, was just stock from factory with a rubber ute tray mat.

Hmmm.

Looking on eBay there are a few different kits with mixed reviews. I can see the genuine one being damaged with loads of soil, mulch and garden rubbish etc.

I'm thinking some seal tape stuff from Bunnings instead. Anyone have pictures of their DYI success?
