Front auto locker available

Hi guys, I made an enquiry a few months back to 4wd systems about their Lokka and was surprised to find a 9yr old super popular model still didn't have a front locker available in this style.

However, because I made that enquiry, they shot me an email today:

Hi Mark,
After extensive testing and development the Hilux 05-on Front Lokka is ready to ship this week.

Our Lokka's are AUSTRALIAN made, they come with a 3 year UNCONDITIONAL unlimited km warranty.
Comprehensive Fitting Instructions included. The differential gear set does not have to be re-set and the carrier bearings are not replaced, so its a pretty simple fit for the mechanically inclined.
Warranty is the same no matter who does the fitting.
The price is $570 (front) and $570 (rear, replaces all LSD plates, springs, gears) including delivery to your door.
Currently on Special for $998 delivered for those who waited patiently for release!.

Are these e (electronic) lockers or a (air) lockers ???

auto lockers are mechanical and arent 'powered' by anything.

I bought the Yukon Grizzly instead, used that for a bit, now running TruTrac and Elocker

Yeh, and great to drive with, similar to a Detroit locker.

they're not a full carrier locker, so not as strong as a Detroit or Yukon

but for lite use with standard tyres and gearing they should be fine

I see 4wd action recently showed a Hilux with lokka fitted to front diff... Seeing as though this thread is 4 years old, has technology or opinions changed on this?
As with all advertising they make it sound great and for the price I'd consider it... But would like some unbiased/unpaid comments really on the pro's and con's if anyone would like to share?

I had a Lock-rite auto locker in the front of my first 4wd, a 4Runner (same design). The technology hasn't changed, they're all basically the same, the only difference being how smoothly they engage/ disengage.

They are very effective, and make your vehicle way more capable, but they require a change of driving style, you need to be smooth, and you can't do any steering unless you're moving (forward or backward, doesn't matter).

There are some situations in soft sand or snow where it would push you straight when you're trying to turn, you just have to be ready for it.

I watched the youtube and was impressed to the point that now I'm thinking about one as they are to install and I have a full front diff sitting in my garage.

But as a lot of my offroad these days is on sand... maybe I'll just learn to deal with that.

I gave 4WD Systems a call... They have had a lot of interest that ending up breaking their website

Hmmmm, seeing as I'm a sand groper (wa) and bulk of driving is dune systems, I'm rethinking it... More investigation needed.
But yeah, after I saw that episode, I was like, sign me up.
The power of advertising, hey?
Wonder how much Commission Shauno and crew will receive?(Excuse my sceptical mind)

Haha I was wondering the same about the commission.

I'm sure it's workable on sand with some pedal control but I am hesitant about that aspect.

If I was trying to keep the costs down, yes I would fit one again, they really do transform the vehicle.
However if the bulk of your driving is on sand, maybe a selectable locker would be better, If it's a strain on your budget you can buy one on layby (which I've just done), or one of those afterpay things if you need it straight away.

Thanks- yes the car is old and there are other maintenance items that need attention, so keeping costs down is ideal.
