Dual Cab - Rear Cup Holder - Aux Power

Postby DeanArmstrong01 on Tue, 31 Mar 2015 2:49 +0000

Hello,
I am about to install my Red Arc Dual Battery System,
I have an 08 Dual Cab Ute, and was thinking about removing the rear console Cup Holders [ones near your feet] & fabricating a panel to house 2 Aux Power Points.

Has anyone attempted this before, if so how did you go.

Cheers

I put one of these in not too long ago, part number 81144BL from Narva. It has 2 USB slots and a ciggy socket for a fridge. I found it pretty easy, ran the 2 wires to a switch in the centre console and from there to a fuse on the second battery...

Does the back of this go into the storage area of the center console?

Not at all, theres plenty of room down in there. I removed the whole console to do it - removed the shifter knobs and skirts, side panels, then 4 bolts holding it down from memory. Drilled a couple of 30mm holes with the step drill then 4 holes for the screws. The lid of the console comes off with 2 screws to give you more light if needed. The terminals on the unit are close to the storage area though and if I was to do it again I'd mount the unit an inch lower.

Spiral 07:

Looks great, might look at that instead seems less fabrication. Silly question but why did you run to a switch? I take you wanted to control the power to and from?.

I thought the USB sockets may have a parasitic drain and would eventually drain my second battery if I didn't drive for a month. That and I had a spare so why not :D

Has anyone managed to remove the rear cupholder and install a panel there like the OP said?

Not super keen on cutting into the console area and my cupholder is shagged anyway.
