General discussion of basically anything Hilux related

I read through all this and didn't really understand. I have a 2014 SR and am new to 4 wheel driving , can I turn off TC permanently or will it reactivate after loss of traction ?? Can you only get it to stay off on earlier models ? Cheers

It's simple mate.

(1) pressing button quickly will turn traction off untill you hit 50km/h and it will turn back on.

(2) press and hold the button while stationery untill you see 2 lights come up on instrument cluster, they are traction and vsc. Now it will NOT come back on untill you turn ignition off or press the button again.

(3) engaging 4wd low range should automatically turn them off and lights will come on dash cluster.

This should be the same across all models with traction and vsc. It works on my hilux and it also was the same for the missus rav4

Gave mine a clean and checked all plugs. Ended up putting a scan gauge on it and force zero it.
Works as Steveyb said now, only problem is now I gotta remember to turn it off when in high range on the beach! Was a pain last time
Why not? Have a go!
If all fails it's only money...

I've got a 2015 SR, make sure you've come to a complete stop.

Make sure you haven't got the traction control button already pressed, if so press it again so no lights are on the dash.

Hold down for 5 ish seconds and it will disable it UNTIL you turn your car off.

If you quickly get out at the beach, turn your engine off make sure you hold the button again for another 5 seconds before you start to bog down.

Power Fluctuations in H4 Sand driving

Postby Flukey on Mon, 18 Nov 2019 10:41 +0000

Hi, My 2014 SR5 Auto Diesel has trouble in H4 whereby when beach driving in soft sand when is starts getting bogged down the vehicle starts going up and down in the rev range. Like it alternates every couple of seconds between higher and lower revs. It dumps the revs right when you need it the most. Low range does not display this trait only 4H. Even if i go to HL so it's not due to gear change. Toyota dont know what it is and of course very hard to replicate in a workshop. Anyone had a similar experience or fix????? Help

Hi Flukey, I just moved this post to the Gen 7 Hilux section as it sits better there.

Is your stability/traction control turned off?
I might be wrong.

Turn off traction control by holding the TC button down for 5 seconds
This hapoens automatically when L4 is engaged

Addit - just pipped at the post ;)

Have a read thru this topic. Shouldn't be surprised Toyota didn't tell you

I go to L4 90% of the time in sand, it’s way nicer on your auto
These things don’t have the grunt to run H4 unless the sand is firm
If your not prepared to stand behind our Troops
Then try standing in front of them

Don’t drive in H4 on sand. You’ll kill your transmission.
