I now own a v6 extra cab to compare with my old 2010 diesel dual cab (both 2wd).
I drive like a nanna and the v6 doesn't get anywhere near the diesel around town. 7.7 vs 10.7.
Haven't done any highway trips to confirm though it will be closer.

2008 TRD 4.0L SC/Auto
Tyre size: 265/65/17
Stock suspension
Carryboy canopy

Short 10km trips of city driving = 18.5L/100km
No HWY driving yet.

Trip computer reads 10.9L/100km

Cheers.

Gday Gipsy,

I have reset the trip a few times now,at each fill and also after a few tanks.
Seems it always settles at 10.8/10.9. Range is also giving me 200km over estimate (580km range on fill up)

I have read about trip computers being a little out..but mine is way off the mark.
Atleast the temp readout is close to actual :D

Cheers.

OK, if you over do the reset this can be a problem too, try reset after a couple of fills then you will have a better idea of average. The figures you give for the city driving sounds reasonable. Country drives will improve the average.

Was thinking the same thing Gipsy.
I have done the resets after each fill, after 2 and after 3....
I am on my 5th tank atm without a reset and she still reads 10.9L/100km.
I dont rely on it..just would be nice to have it closer to what the actual average is :(
Heading up to Fraser soon so will have some HWY figures.

Cheers.

The display is just a guide (an inaccurate one!) So always best to calculate your self ltrs in divided by hundreds of k (say 50ltrs divided by 5.5 hundreds ks =9lp hundred... Hundreds being 550 or 5.5)

2008 TRD Hilux

Trip computer says 9l/100km

Real world is 13.4l/100km

Apparently the trip computer isn't calibrated for the TRD!

2014 hilux SR5 dual cab, had a Steel canopy for ages, most other mods don't change air resistance, but listed anyway:

For the total life 59,301 km I have 9.66L/100km avg worst 13.34L/100km, best 8.68L/100Km
typical is 9-9.5L/100km, lower for long 100kph drives, usually highest headed out to the nullarbor on 110kph roads with hills and headwinds.

pre 2 inch lift, road tyres, from time canopy installed: 9.74L/100km (32,199kms)
2 inch lift road tyres: 9.73L/100km (10,500kms)
2 inch lift Bridgestone dueler A/T (265/65/r17): 9.86L/100km (6,500kms)

so it seems overall none of the mods I've made have made a great deal of difference, but I guess it's usually more where and how I'm driving that is impacting fuel economy the most (on/off road, peak hour/open road, 100kph/110kph etc)
