Canvas seat covers

Postby slice on Wed, 20 Nov 2013 11:30 +0000

Im looking at getting some canvas set covers for a 2013 SR Dual cab. I've got some quotes and just wondering from people's experience which is the better of the lot. looking for waterproof, fit and some soft liner on the inside so that they don't wreck the seats underneath.
quotes are all including front and back, head rests and shipping:
Toyota $600
Tuffnuts 12oz $910
Black duck 12oz $821.92
supafit 14oz $580
gotya covered seats covers $429
msa4x4 $728

My '08 SR duel cab has had black duck since new and seats underneath look like new. Not only that, but after 5 years seat covers are still in top nick with no frayed stitching, tears etc I even had a slowly leaking red wine bottle on the front passenger seat when camping which I didn't know about and wine went between seat and seat back onto back seat floor without any stains on seat. Couldn't recommend BD seat covers more to be honest! Can't speak for the other brands...

I had black duck canvass (second hand) which were great except wrong size

I now have supafit seat covers locally made.

The blackduck from memory had a slightly more waxy feel than supafit, but then that could be because they were a few years old (human oils and stuff get into them).

I still have blackduck on the back seat (they fit perfectly, just my front seat ones didnt fit ... i didnt realise when i bouight them, but 2007 is a different seat to 2012).

I went for canvass because its properly waterproof... the denims and stuff are nicer to sit on, but will get wet from boardshorts / mud / kids.

supafit were AWESOME to deal with, and are a forum sponsor so will give you discount if you drop newhilux name.

Qwerty, Is that the black or a dark grey? I wasn't sure if the 14oz would feel a bit to stiff

That's black not dark gray. Supafit black is same as blak duck dark gray.

Supafit dark gray is not really dark at all.

Nah not too stiff mate. I don't think so. I like ruggedness of it. Can trust it. Are you wa ?

You mention water proof, soft and fit. Have you considered neoprene seat covers (same stuff as wet suits). Had mine for a while now and love them. $190 for single cab bench seat pair from arb. Only down side I find is they dirty easily but I just chuck em in the wash

Nar I'm in sydney, want something that I can just use after going for a surf and jump in with wet boardies, haven't thought about neoprene. How would that hold up if a dog was to sit in the back?

ah ok i was going to say welcome to come have a look.

yeah thats why i went for canvass ... constant beach work ... surfing, kite surfing, diving, kids at beach, snorkelling etc. Jumping in and out of car with wet salty boardies. Sunscreen. Canvass is really good with that stuff.

the sunscreen still marks / soaks into the canvass a little ... but a firm wipe down usually gets rid of it.

Neoprene is a cool idea, not seen it in practice though, wouldnt it absorb the salty water though and leave dried salt stains? (canvass can do this too but its easily wiped down, whereas a neoprene you'd have to remove them from seats and wash?)

Having to ever remove them would be a deal breaker for me personally.

That would of been great, you have things that I will be putting on my car when it finally arrives. One day I will head over to WA for a kite…

I think I'll go with the supafit, they seem good value and I like the black.

yeah not bad mate, not super bright (10,000 lumens) ... but reputable brand (new protecth / rigid industries) so should last test of time.

Can get cheaper ones in same spec but apparently lesser quality (longevity issues , water sealing issues, lens alignment etc) ... like anything, do your research and try to seperate snake oil from good oil.

So far so good. Compliments the pencil beam light forces.

i have the wet seat neoprene ones. i bought them from TJM. its the third set i have bought. had them in my 96 hilux then my rav4 and now my 08 hilux. i reckon they are bloody awsome, im in the surf club and do a fair bit of camping/hunting and im always getting into my ute either soaking wet or covered in mud and over the years they have kept clean and still look great. best fitting ones i have seen too.
