What about a whole new pedal unit? But obvioisly switched so you can disengage it from the main system, to me kinda sounds simple, that way you have botg of your resistors with no voltage difference just mount under bonnet with a cable? Or am i way off?

Trialed a new design for idle up acouple of weeks ago but had to wait to get the car back to take a pic. Works well so far, ne fault codes or limp mode. Just need to work on getting it a little more compact and convenient to use.

This is what you need. Made from a poly water tank

even has 3 settings

That's one way to go although its a lot of mucking around wiring, mounting, running a control cable.
Here's an easier option http://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=14470
I'll pimp my own product ;)

Just to address a few pms regarding the circuit I posted way back when

I've got my adjustable idle up working fairly well but resistor values need to be spot on.

My circuit showed an adjustable resistor (POT) being used to "turn up" my circuits resistance in order alter the idle speed. I used 2 resistors to set a "maximum" idle of around 1700rpm, and by increasing the resistance through the POT the idle could be adjusted down from there.

However a problem I'm having is the small range of resistance in which this circuit works - from around 900rpm to 1700rpm the resistance change needs only be around 100 ohm, and a dual pole POT is required to do the job. The smallest I could find was a 500 ohm POT. I rigged 2 pots together to function as a single, 250 ohm POT however the resistance value was still to high.
If you increase the POTs resistance over 100 ohm the ECU ignores the new input and everything goes back to normal (no error codes) however the idle up won't work until you switch the idle circuit off, then turn it back on again with the resistance less than 100 ohms.
I found putting a 100 ohm resistance in parallel with POT gave me more range to adjust the POT before the circuit cancelled out but still haven't got it perfect. As it stands right now I can turn the POT slightly more than half its range of adjustment before the circuit cancels and could probably get it even better by playing with the resistance values some more but essentially I'm heading away from an easily copied circuit to one that requires a bit of custom work.
Using a 500 ohm dual gang POT with a resistor in parallel would work but the resistance "curve" wouldn't be linear in the slightest and be hard to finely adjust at one end of the spectrum.

So in this case I'm also going to endorse Andy's product as for the asking price it really does save a lot of stuffing around. This other method does work, but unless someone finds a 100 ohm dual gang POT that's readily available it simply isn't worth the effort.

instead of altering the pedal position sensor output, has any1 try powering the idle air motor on the throttle body?
Jeep seems to be able to achieve a digital hand throttle this way,

just a thought

Hey guys,

I have managed to make up a plug and play idle controller that doesn't throw any codes in any scenario (except for when you forget to plug your accelerator peddle back in :? ), simply plugs into the existing factory accelerator plug then into the top of the accelerator peddle, then a potentiometer is simply installed into the space where the dash light dimmer switch goes (can obviously be installed elsewhere if you have a dash light dimmer).

Anyone reckon they would be interested in this little gadget? prices would be very reasonable.

Sounds like a useful bit of kit, I'd be interested.

Yeh I have enough to do 8 of them at the moment but the plugs are the hard bit to source, I can get plugs in quantities of 10 or 100 so not going to buy 100 if there is no interest ;)

I have posted one somewhere here on the forum. very complete.

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=26499

try there :)

btw: item 4, 4th page contains the Accelerator Position Sensor.

Are you willing to share details? sending one off to Europe is likely to expensive. However I can solder myself ;)

I do have a cruise control of John Gold (dutch) which sort of does the same, read odometer pulse and adjust pedal.
Still would love to have a idle to set it to 1000/2000/2500/3000 rpm for offroading.

I haven't really been following this thread, however if you need more accurate components, then maybe try Element14??? I know from experience that Jaycar lack the broad range required for some applications, Tricky Dick is dead and buried, not many other options available these days.
