I'll just kick this one to life again
To the OP, if he is still looking at doing this, the Recaro Specialist is a lot cheaper than what he looked at. It is not a tight buckety thing (for me at least) but some variations have higher side bolsters than some others. I like the high bolsters, which are scalloped on the outside to make access easier.
If the standard airbag equipped seat is removed (and replaced with a non-airbag A/M seat), I have two concerns:
1/ My understanding is that fitting an appropriate resistor to the wire to the airbag fools the relevant software into thinking that an airbag is still present, so no fault codes or lights are generated. Can anyone confirm ?
2/ With everything standard, the car knows whether or not the driver is seated in the car. I remember BoxHead saying somewhere that this affects whether or not the airbags are armed. I wouldn't like to be driving around having unwittingly caused the airbags to not be armed.
Does connecting the seat belt actually trigger all this to take place, or is it the weight sensor in the cushion of the standard seat ?? If it's the weight sensor, is there a fix ?.
BTW Unless anyone knows for sure, I am not looking for any advice on the legality or otherwise of such a swap. I'll tie myself in knots researching all that
, probably starting with the references in this thread
