Under tub water tanks

Postby Rustyau on Wed, 24 Jul 2013 8:05 +0000

Has anyone utilised the space/voids underneath the tub for installation of a water tank? I've seen the 90mm PVC pipe run from side to side just forward of the number plate panel, but I'm curious to see if anyone has used the any of the other voids, eg- behind side guards or above spare wheel?

Also, experiences with different types of tank materials- PVC, Poly, etc. I've heard PVC can leave the water with a bad taste?? I want to be able to use the water for both washing and drinking.

Cheers

15 litres isnt that much really? my old man has a custom made one in his patrol and he gets about 62 litres in his. only cost him about 300 bucks and is made from stainless. i know its more then double the price but he gets more then 4 times the litreage and its made from stainless.

Have a look at the Fleximake water bladders that go behind your rear seat. That if you have a duel cab. Up to 110lt

I built a false floor at the height of the wheel arches and put in a tank and drawer below that. 70l tank takes about 1/4 of the tray approx 200mm high

Thanks Matt, that's pretty much what I'm after. :)
Awhile ago when I checked fleabay, there was nothing like it.

More than 15l would be good too though, so I might see the local fabricators and see what they can do as well.

Unfortunately I don't have any space for water in the tub, as I chose to use the space either side for other things and the drawers go pretty much all the way to the headboard. Image

70 litre poly tank mounted inbetween the middle two chassis rails..

Image

tap installed to bottom chassis rail

Image

filler neck is just infront of the tray header board, used a big sprinkler head and removed the innards, too easy!

Image

Fits perfectly inbetween the chassis rails, didnt have to remove the tray either just lifted it up about 50mm them slid her in

Yeah they would be. Just gotta check what space I have, so I can sort out what size I can get in there without having to lift the tub. Don't wanna go there!

Nah its a piece of piss! you wana undo all the bolts from underneath and take them all out except the front two. I had to lift mine up about an extra 100mm but it made it so much easier to slide her in from the back once the rear wheel was out the way.. You want to attach all the side rails to the tank BEFORE you slide her in as theres no chance of shit lining up when its all under there..

Nice work on the tank & thanks for the info! Going to get under tomorrow and measure up to see if i can fit the slightly longer 80 litre diesel tank under the tub! Water tank is going behind the rear seat to keep it cooler.
Cheers, Drew

How do these poly tanks go with having drinking water in them. Does it taste? Does it get fungi growth in it?

I would always run a quality filter on any tanked water source used for human consumption.

Yeah they do taste a touch plasticy, but hardly noticeable even the missus doesnt mind it so it cant be too bad...

Apparently rinsing them out with hot water and vinegar is the go to reduce the tang
