Lucky if it's 20mm lower when I compare to standard. I looked at doing the 140 but hanging down much further and people saying they get bash in a bit and I would always stress about hitting it bush bashing. I get 1200km to the tank (probably a lot more on an unmoded ute ) and that is more than enough for me.

legends cheers boys yeah my economy has gone to shit with the mods i've done gone from 750+ to 600 would love a little more range think the 128l will be the best bet. apparently it only hangs down 5 mill more at the rear and is actually a little higher at the front. has anyone had and issues putting holes or dents in them ?? surely they've got to be stronger than the stock tank

I had an ARB Pioneer plastic tank fitted a few months ago - 145 litre and replaces the original. $1155 fitted. It is suposed to be about a third of the weight of the original tank.

Shiiiit is that how much ARB are leaching people for a plastic tank?
Typical ARB, they are the masters at Marketing.

Bet you the sales pitch was - "don't worry the plastic fuel tanks are as strong as The Long Ranger metal tanks"........

And I'm betting they are too. I read that they are on average 8mm thick. I reckon that would handle a bit more of a bashing than my long ranger would.

I managed to dent the whole leading edge of my 140l long ranger tank, it never leaked and I had no dramas with it, I used it as a 'tank slider' on more than one occasion. You'd have to be pretty unlucky to damage one enough to leak. I ended up getting it replaced anyway under insurance when I smashed my front in up the cape

I did on my last ute. Split it right up the guts, corrugations. I just welded it back up though.

Anyone had a problem with there bottom coupling on there tail shaft hitting there 145L tank when off-road. Mine did and cracked the welds, twice. Second time was even after I cut the corner out. Got the shits so I've had it removed and a standard tank put back in now.

How many are using a subtank at the back like this one?

http://www.dolium.com.au/retail_catalog ... _item.html

Need more range with the v6 when towing and this would be easier to fit myself, have been quoted $1500 fitted for a long ranger which would be nice but this would get me some nice sliders for the same price

That's cheap!
In Nov 2014 I got a quote on a plastic long range tank from these guys,
http://www.jcafleetservices.com.au/aust ... fuel-tank/
Their price was $1300, and they were located in Perth, so would have to add freight on to it.

Tray mounted home made auxillary tank gravity feed into 140L Long Ranger. Nominally 140L by dimensions but I only ever get 120L in ( must be all the baffles and sh*t internally plus the valve cut out section )

They could be 15mm thick, make not difference.
They are plastic, the threaded fittings are moulded into plastic, the tank is held into place by a belly strap.
Each to their own, but when you really take into consideration all aspects of this tank... really!
Id have no comfort is knowing my fuel tank is plastic when I'm bouncing off rock steps or dropping into a river crossing laced with boulders.

Let me know when you sell your long ranger.....Ill take it (mate looking for one)

I recently had a 145L Long Range Automotive tank fitted, and because I know how much people on this site love photos, I took these before and after comparison shots. I tried to line the camera up with the same reference points in both photos, so it should be a pretty good representation of the change in clearance.

I hope someone finds this handy.

The 128ltr wouldn't be as low and to be honest if you're worried about damaging either you are doing some very serious off-roading or rock climbing. I had the 145 on the last Hilux and had the vehicle sitting on its guts on a rock ledge up Palmer River on the way to the cape. Couple of small dings and scratches to tank and didn't even look like leaking.
