Cargo Barrier?

Postby Joellux on Tue, 02 Oct 2012 9:42 +0000

Hey fellas,

Cant seem to find anything on it so thought id ask.
Has anyone fitted a cargo barrier in the back of there dual cab? I do a lot of solo trips and usually dont have more than 1 other person in the ute so i have decided to rip out the back seat and put a fridge and storage system in there just wondering if anyone else has a similar set up and if so could they throw up a pic be good to get an idea.

Cheers Joel.

I have done this, I did it as a temporary fit so it isn't very pretty. However as my kids are grown I just haven't bothered putting the seat back. I have not got a cargo barrier, but fitted a piece of plywood to the floor, secured it with some of the nuts already there. Also fixed my fridge slide to the ply.

I'm not sure about the rules in QLD but in NSW if you remove any seats then you can be done by the boys in blue as it is considered a modification to the seats.
To be 100% legal you also need to remove the seat belts, then get an inspection done for a change of details for the new seating capacity and submit it to the rta to be listed on your rego papers.

I realise that it is unlikely that you would get pinged for this, but just thought that I'd mention it.

I haven't had my back seat in for about 4 years , have the fridge strapped down in there , its where I carry my camera gear and a heap of other junk

It turns into a jumbled mess so its about time for some sort of simple storage system and tie down points
because I know some of that junk floating around in there is not very safe

I have a bit of a plan , false floor and one shelf , I would be interested in what others have done and a few photos if possible

the ply would be good across the floor, was looking at buying a poly water tank that goes in the floor well there pretty cheap. Was considering making draws for one side but will have to see due to the doors opening angle. Cheers Andy something to think about, but i think ill take the risk, its to much buggering around with the rta. when i get back to brisbane ill knock something up and if its any good ill let you guys know :)

For anyone that trips over this post I have installed 2 x shelves over the rear seat with 'No Weld' nylon connectors so I can take the shelves out of the rear of dual cab when I need seating for more than 2 ppl.

All works fine, actually much better than I thought, I can access esky on bottom shelf from front seats, can organise my tie downs, ocky straps, ropes so much better organised etc.

But, the best part is not having to pull out everything to get to the 'stuff' on the bottom of the pile and have people checking out all of my mining gear, which is now hidden away from sight :)

Next version I want to have a fridge behind passenger on a 'DIY' slide.

But, the doors do not open to 90deg.

Anyone found a fleabay or similar site kit to open the rear doors more than standard ?

TIA
