I had the shakes in the front after a bit of off road stuff, and still there after 200km on the highway, but after a good clean with the gurney, getting rid of the mud on the wheels, and it's all good again. Must have been throwing the balance off.

Mud's a good one for it as the fellas said. You could have lost a wheel weight somewhere between the tyre shop and where you noticed the shake ( Hint: Trye fitters like to use second hand wheel weights on the inside of the wheel ;) )
If you have alloy wheels and they've used stick on weights these can play up as well.
Tie rod ends as someone mentioned cop a hiding and are worth looking at too.

Check your wheel alignment as well as the actual balancing. I had the same problem until I found someone who spent more than a minute on it and it is now perfect. I put up with it for 60000kms(ie the life of the MTZs) until someone could fix it when I got a new set. The alignment was way out.Like you I have a 2 inch lift and this changes the geometry.

Well I can say that I had the shakes bad, after popping a bead in wet clay I used water from a jerry can to clean the bead and reseal whilst on the car. Took me a few days to figure out and 2 wheel balances later to remove the tyre and I had about 3 litres of water in there. Now Im also known as the "tractor boy"

I'd say it would be balance. If the wheels don't locate properly on the hub(center bore) you may be chasing the balances for ever. Hiluxes tend to be very sensitive when the wheels don't locate properly

yeah i got the shakes at 108km/h exactly then gets worse and stops at 115. im putting mine down to wheel alignment/ balance as it swerves something cronic when i hit the breaks. i get the suspension lift put in tomorrow so see how she goes after that

I have the same problem on my 09 sr5 Changed my rack ends which where gone and got an alignment and balance but still does it. Tyres are nearly due for replacing and that's all the mechanic could come up with.

Swerving when you hit the brakes I would have your breaks bled too sounds like something is not grabbing right.

Just some info:
After similar issues, new set tyres worn after only 30000klm, 4 wheel alignments and balances at reputable tyre places, the shake was still there.
I have learnt the expensive way. New set of tyres still shook a little after the tyre place did alignment and obvious wear after 800klm. I Finally went to Pedders Suspension in Toowoomba, they showed and explained a few things to me. Did a proper wheel alignment and has been perfect ever since.
Never again shall I be going to Beuarepairs, Bob Jane, Goodyear outlets for a wheel alignment.
Proffessional suspension shop only for me.
Cheers.

after the lift i had an allignment done and the swerving when braking was still there but only ever so slightly so it must be the brakes. ill get it fixed at the next service, ill just change my driving habbit for the time being.

Just a tip next time you get wheels balanced, ask to have them put on the finger balancer [using the wheel nut holes] not the cone balancer [centre of rim]as a lot of rims don’t seem to run true
Found this out on my 2003 sr5, not sure about my new truck no balance required yet

Had a minor shake only around 100kmh,only on about 3km of road I take daily. Then noticed on way home from a trek.

Found this thread and thought I’ll add my experience.

I had front wheels balance checked.

250gram out. Balanced, drove my daily road, sorted.

Is 250gram a lot? Why would they suddenly go out of balance?
