Just wondering how people with canopies have run their cables to get supply in the back for fridges and other accessories?

Hi there ran my direct from Aux battery along left chassis came in through the inner guard in front of left wheel arch and along canopy base to the rear put terminal blocks in for positive and negative as to put anderson cigarette lighter and lighting in rear hope this helps.

I did the same from aux battery down the LH chassis rail but across to the RH side of my tub,drilled a hole, grommet for the wiring and screwed on a Baintech power panel which has cig lighter , 2 merit sockets and digital amp/volt gauge. great bit of gear.

Did you guys drill the hole in the bottom of your tub or on the side wall somewhere?
Where did you mount you baintech unit?
I was thinking Anderson plug to the rear of my car then lead up and over into tray / canopy for when needed.
just getting good seal might be problem

I drilled in the side of the tub at the rear with just enough room from the back of the tub to be able to plug in the accessories. And since I have a tub liner I cut a piece of 4mm perspex I had and used it as a backing plate for the units 2 mounting screws ( just thought only 2 self tappers in a thin poly tub liner would probably fall out with a few corrugations on the dirt.) Make sure you use a rubber grommet in the hole through the metal tub though.

I've got a waterproof 12v socket (20amp fuse) in my tray / canopy that is wired to the Aux Battery. It's a white marine grade one, screwed into the tuff dek / trayliner.

Have also another 12v socket under the back seat (it's own 20amp fused cable to aux).

And also a 60amp fused cable with anderson plug on it, under back seat, to aux.

The canopy has it's own feed for the interior LED lighting that comes off the starter battery (draws nothing, doens't bother me if it's on for hours).

Anyone have a photo of how they passed through the wires and the mounting location of the plugs?

Mate have a look at Page 1 of my build thread. I have the baintech unit as well as a few 12v outlets mounted on the left hand wall of the tray just above my my drawers.

Thanks Man that is what I am looking for, do you have any more detailed shots of that? As well as where you actually passed the wires from under the tray. That's exactly what I am looking to do as a mini project..

I am currently overseas and trying to source parts on the net however will probably have to do it all once I am back.

Any thoughts on running the cables under the canopy gasket?
I'm not to keen on putting a hole in my tub.

If you do drill a hole that is no longer used, a blanking grommet in the hole is barely noticeable. I have done wiring on mine and another. On mine I came through the side. On the other I came up behind the taillight and drilled through and mounted a Baintech unit opposite the tail light. My tub must look like Swiss cheese by now! We even found room for a relay behind the tail light for a pressure pump on the other car!

I ran my cables from the back of the cab through a factory puched hole through a gromet down into the chassis rail out the end then up under the rear corner then behind the light,put all my connections in there and have a 12v outlet in the tub directly above the light assembly, I used a step drill and also just next the that to run one cable up to the light in the canopy,then ran some flex over where it was exposed it looks ok ,got to run another cable back under and across to the drivers side for another outlet as well.
I will put some photos up if need be.

If you run the cable down along the chassis rail and straight up behind the tail light, from below the tub, you should find a gap at the top which allows you to enter without drilling any holes. Unscrew the tail light to make it easy. Then just use a bit of black corrugated flexible split conduit as normal to avoid any sharp edges. This is the situation on a 2012 tub and I guess it dates back to earlier models. Some canopy installers use the same trick to power a canopy ceiling light.

Is there a side in particular or both have the hole?

I removed my L/H rear tail light ran the the wires up the inside of the tray and at the top of the tray there is a gap the bring the wires through to inside the canopy, I then fitted an anderson plug so I can disconnect the canopy and still have the wiring in the tray.

Just pulled the l/h side tail light off and can't see how to get cable into tray?
Have you got a picture of the hole your talking about?
Was it on a 2012 model SR5?
