Power Chips

Postby jimmy on Wed, 23 Jan 2008 9:00 +0000

Am probably covering old ground, but has anyone had any seriouse problems after chipping their trucks, am just about to fit an agritech chip to my 2.5 d4d extra cab. I have read on here about the engines going into limp home mode, is it just a case of switching off and re starting to re-set the engine??? Also I have heard some chips are better than others, the ones that just increase fuel pressure in the common rail system I have been told not to go with, but to get one that increase or changes the injection time etc? Any advice would be great cheers Jim

when they go into limp mode, pull over, witch of the vehicle, disconnect the negative off the battery and wait a minute before reconnecting. This will get the engine going again as normal, but the fault code will remain in the computer. you need the Toyota I.T Tester to remove the history of fault codes.

Jimmy I have and are still having 'limp mode' issues-My problem is the changes in timing the fuel is injected to the engine. When I go into limp mode I have to stop and turn off but I can start straight away again and all is good to go. The chip is well worth it for power (alot)and economy(some)

I have a DP Chip. Does the same thing only in cold weather ?!? DP Chip now say they have fixed the issue. Awsome power increase - and adjustable which is handy.

For the price of a chip you can now get a professional re-tune of the ECU to give better and more reliable results. A lot of aftermarket research has provided the most suitable alternative to fitting a chip. Just find a trusted reliable tuning engineer.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Do we have a list of people who do the ECU remaps ?

I spent a few hours going through old forum threads and its clear over the last 5 - 10 years there has been alot of improvements in Chip products and price , plus people who say that a remap is competitive versus chips now.

I tried googling to find a few around the country but hopefully there is a more comprehensive list with some independent reviews ?

Where do you live?

I'd ring a reputable tuner (one that doesn't recommend dpf removals and doesn't get carried away with the words: safe tune) and ask for a recommendation in your area.
I might be wrong.

I am working in Western Sydney lately.

I emailed 3 dyno shops within 90 minutes drive from me that advertise that work and none replied

Maybe now that new cars are scarce the auto shops are overloaded with people holding on to their older vehicles leading to more repairs etc. Just a thought ;)
