Scan Gauge II

General discussion of basically anything Hilux related

Should be OK but I say buy one, or find someone who has one and plug it in. It either works or doesn't so taste and try before you buy
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

If it's Euro4 it will be fine. That's when the made the Hilux obd2 compliant

Cheers Gipsy. I'll have to see if someone local has one I can try. I finally got a hold of them and they said if the manufacture year is not 2007, it won't work.

I'm still hopeful it does work though as I believe mine is an early new build i.e. Euro4, ODB2 over M-ODB...

Actually, can anyone confirm that ALL Euro4 'Lux's are ODB2, not M-ODB?

The plug in point is a clue... look at a later model, of any vehicle... if the plug looks the same it is likely to be compliant because the obd2 is generic to all recent models. The plug is under your steering column.

Do a Google for obd2 you can see the plug ... it is generic for all obd2 you can get an elm327 Bluetooth one for $6

Has anyone on the forum used one of the Ultragauge scan gauges on an 05 KUN26 D4D 1KD-FTV?
If so, do they recommend this product or should I re-direct my attention towards the 1KD Performance Monster max?
I'm of the understanding that the Ultragauge setups are just for monitoring and not map changing.
Cheers for any advise.

i have a Toyota HIlux 2006 Before October build date 12/05

Anyway my scan gauge works completely fine, but no other OBD2 scan tool will work

all i want to know is what protocol is the scan gauge? I have a copy of TeachStream on my mini laptop but need to buy a cable and there is so many different types

I been told firstly its OBD1 but the obd1 plug looks different and smaller then the ob2 and my plug is 17 Pin as any obd2 will fit the socket

I did buy a couple of bluetooth cheapo plug ins off eBay, that i pluged in and my phone found them and i go to connect but fails!

Doing my head in!

The BT module wont connect to your phone or the app wont connect to the ECU?

Ive got the cheapo ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 modules from eBay and mine works fine with Torque on my tablet.

Hey mate on my phone it shows up it's there I pair my phone to it open a OBD app. Go to connect but it looses connection and or times out

That's what mine is a ELM327

On mine when I go to connect it says connecting to ELM327 1.5V

So not sure is the 1.5V is there version of the Bluetooth unit, I tried number of apps but not Torque I'll give it a go tomorrow and see what happens

These are the 2 units I'm trying to use on my

2006 3ltr Hilux ( early 2006 model )
5/12/15

Image

They don't work I'll upload more pics of my problems

Screen shot to show my phone picks up the Bluetooth obd device ( asks me to put code in to pair ) which I do

Then I open an app to connect and this happens

i know im talking to my self a bit here

But i have found what may be the *Protocols*? for 2005 onwards

https://www.boutiqueobdfacile.com/klavk ... -b645.html

♦ ISO 15765-4 (CAN),
♦ ISO 14230-4 (KWP2000 slow et fast init),
♦ ISO 9141-2,
♦ SAE J1850 VPW,
♦ SAE J1850 PWM,

No exactly sure what these mean, but says it will cover any brand Diesel from 2004 On wards
and petrol from 2001 onwards

I have the blue one in your pic, maybe a different version though?

Torque does mention cheap ELM327 clones may not work.

Heres the Adapter info from torque:

Not 100% sure mate as it says same as mine

Anyway I did some research with the ELM327 connector nowhere mentions it's supports ISO 9141-2

I looked back at Teach stream cable got all protocols to supports from 1996 Toyota on

So I'll just have to wait for the cable to come then sus it out with teach stream. My smart gauge pretty much reads everything these Bluetooth gizmos do. Just want to use the teach stream more for live data and injector values

By the way my sister has a Mazda 3 06 model and I use that bigger OBD connector in photo above and it worked fine. However that elm327 connector didn't work but I think that's more because her car is more updated I dunno. But I tired a few apps like Dash Command and ScanMaster

I found the scan master really usful and easy to use

DashCommand is ok but it is a bit slow for readings as I can be doing 40km and it will slowly increase from 20km

Though put it in gps mode and do real time speed you can do 1/4 mile runs and Nort to 60 runs. Fair to say I tied this for the sake of it but the sis don't know lol

Just a random question, would it be possible to substitute the standard trip computer for a Scan Gauge II?

I’d say yes, as it gives you the same info. Just need to keep it plugged in.

Will the Scanguage 2 read my Auto Transmission temps on my 2014 D4D Hilux. Model is KUN26R. Also will it be using power when the motor isn’t running.

No it gets power from the engine on power so when the engine is off no power is consumed. And for egt you need a probe into the turbo dump pipe and a gauge of some kind. N80 has egt tho. While you are looking for that, buy a transmission temperature gauge as well ;)

Yes it will work on your model: ATF Reading on Scan Guage II

Use the code from the 2nd to last section (Hilux 5 speed auto diesel only). Exclude the last zero on the final code
