If you have a welder it would be cheaper to knock somthing up your self and it would be 10x stronger than what you can buy for a reasonable price. Or go yo your local tool shop and they should have strong little boxes in a rack for storing little bits and pieces.

I'll second the dexion solution. I have this in my garage, along with Maxim workshop solution (eBay) on the other side. Works great! :D

You can get pallet racking second hand pretty cheap. It might be a bit big for what you want but definitely strong. I helped set it up in my old bosses shed. Works a treat. We got yellow tongue flooring to make shelves on the racks. I cant remember how much he paid but it was pretty cheap.

Cheers,

Chris.

I second what bullzeye said, if ya handy on the tools use steel or timber and knock something up on a sunday. screw it back into your stud walls or masonary for strength and safety :)

Ok so I was gonna post a pic of my workbench but can't, guessing I've gotta have it hosted or something?

With $2000 you could buy the timber AND tools needed to cusom build whatever storage you want!

I built a bloody solid work bench from 100mm rough cut timber, hardwood and yellowtongue, It's about 2.5m long, 750mm deep and has a shelf underneath. Materials cost me about $250 and took about 4 hours to do with a mate on a Sunday. Plus a slab of beer... :D

Shelves, I just got the most heavy duty ones from Bunnings and they're pretty sturdy, rated at 500kg. So not sure what you need them for but they're more than enough for my purposes!

I was going to buy the pallet style racking but also wanted to put doors on it to keep the the dust out and to look neater.
Since getting the welder I thought I might as well make my own for a bit of practice. I have not quite finished yet but here are a couple of crappy pics from my Iphone, made it with 50x25 RHS ladder frame with 16mm melamine shelving and doors.

Marcello this is in the Mrs garage, not mine

Fraser , I hear you about another project, I was looking for the practice though. There seems to be some alright gear on eBay, I would just be mindful that it is a system you can add to later on easily for flexibility

Fraser, building storage shelves is always pretty easy. You might as well give it a go. Easiest is the Dexion as discussed. I fitted out a garden shed with it and some steel shelving and it was awesome and quick. I've also done some out of pine studs bolted together. This did not take long either. In my workshop I got some extra C sections cut to size when I ordered the shed. I always make the shelf width to be a standard width for an MDF sheet (eg 450mm or 600mm) but it is usually cheaper to get the shelves cut to width from full 2400mm x 1200mm sheets from Bunnings. I used 19mm MDF with good results but it needs to be supported front and back or it will sag.

Now my welding skills are reaching the gun standard to rival Alby (I've got the piece of paper to prove that I am a gun MEM0501C welder  ), I'd probably use 25mm SHS for the frame and stick the MDF on top. Depending on the span you need, you might need to use bigger SHS (or 50x50x 3mm Angle)

Found some pics for you mate.

You can see what happens to unsupported MDF shelves in this pic. They sag.The grey storage bins have been great though! C sections cut with shed. I had to add a centre leg but they are rock solid but waste some shelf height.

The timber bench on right has gone to make way for the lathe. Bench where chainsaw is is hardwood.

Small stuff storage.

The top shelf in this pic is supported by 25mm SHS

You have a bit more space to work with than I have though!

EDIT: Forgot to say the C section is attached with brackets from Stratco where we got the shed from.
