They drill the barrel, place any old hilux key in the key hole and program. Presto in under 30 seconds they have your car started. I found this out by experience when they attempted to steal my hilux. For those of you who have the 2010 SR5 with the blank on the passengers side handle instead of the door lock key hole, all they do is drill a 10mm hole (its only plastic) flat blade screwdriver and turn. A little to easy, I have put a stainless steal 10mm panel in behind mine now. Good luck drilling that out quietly.
The other thing I have done is install my own 4 point immobilizer so now they can program keys as much as they like the vehicle will not start. To reduce the price of the keys all I use now is the immobiliser remote to lock and unlock as well as disarming the immobiliser, then I just use the Toyota keys without the remotes.

Sorry for resurrecting an old post, I lost both master keys and drive around with a valet key. I also saw this cheap
OBD Smart Key Maker that is suposedily possible to make a master key even if "All keys lost". I have a good feeling that this will work, the main question is on what models?
I have 2008 made in Thailand registered in EU Hilux with a key that has a dot on it (no G mark). My dealear is saying only new ECU unit is a possible solution with 1000 EUR price tag for one master key with remote. I rang a couple of local locksmiths and the only option would be aftermarket clone of valet key with remote (around 130 EUR). There was one positive response from a locksmith 1,000 miles away from me that it is possible to reset the immobiliser with ADVI or ZedFull device
Will this more cheaper and simple solution work for me:
- Order an original master remote key pre-cut with the number tag that I also have (60 EUR)
- Order OBD Toyota smart keymaker (10 EUR)
The only concern I have is that this Chinese OBD device will brick my car
has anyone tested it out? Any candidates?
