I understand this computer isn't the most accurate, but I do believe it is accurate in the sense of when you are using more or less fuel.
Where I live I'm surrounded by traffic lights in hilly built up areas and I've observed this has a considerable affect on my fuel economy, but can be somewhat managed by driving style. I never used to think my driving style could affect my usage as much as it does (I'm already a pretty cruisey driver) but even little things like using the accelerator as little as possible, coasting where-ever possible, and staying in gear when approaching a stop (instead of just idling up in neutral) has an affect of as much as 1.5L/100km.

The proof will be in my next fill up, as my last tank netted me 12.7/100km with only the last 50km of watching the fuel economy readout (just fitted).

It isn't exactly a secret that driving style can affect your economy, but you'd amazed at just how much better you can do even when you think you're doing everything right!

Am I correct in guessing that you have an SR and have fitted the Trip computer?
If so can you advise how thats best done and what costs where involved please?

after nearly 10.000km's i'm at an average of 9.17 L/100km in a manual SR5 with stock tyres and general stock appearance but dual battery and arb rear bar and compressor so a small weight gain. Just got my canopy installed so will be interesting to see if consumption changes.

Currently in a 70 series v8 landcruiser ute (manual) and getting about 16-17 L/100km :o mostly highway at 110kph. I get the same range out of 3/4 of the sub and main tank as i do out of 1 tanks in the hilux! Though either way I'd be filling up every 2 days... glad I'm not paying the fuel bill

I have a 2012 dual cab 4x4 TD. Everything is pretty much stock on the car. I am really surprised with fuel economy on the thing. I am getting around 12-13 lts/100. I know toyota state you should be getting around 9lts/100 which i never expected to get. I thought from talking to other people to get around the 10lts/100 mark.

Anyone got any ideas on what could be causing the difference? It has done about 86,000 kms, 245x75x16 tyres no other mods. I am about to fit a canopy but I'm not sure if this will help much. I have purchased a can of CRC MAF cleaner. Didnt seem to do much.

90% of my driving is done on the highway at around 100-110kms/hr.

Last trip 728km and used 63 lts to fill. That makes it 8.65 lts per 100km. Very impressive for an 07 DC , D4D, 82000km on the clock, bullbar and 235.75.15's.

Updates on my previous posts,

I have since regeared my car to 4.1:1 running 285/75/16 on a 3 inch lift. Got 620km from 64 litres. Hopefully it will get under 10s again after a good intake/ sensor clean.

Just drove to brissy from Townsville, averaged 13l per 100km, that's with 33's and cruise on for most of the way with a fair lot of overtaking caravans.

Have recently moved from Adelaide to Perth. Loaded in my dual cab manual diesel 33" mud tyres with overall lift including tyres (6"), mainly camping gear two fridges heap of clothes and bedding, fishing gear no roof rack but an awning myself and the dog. Travelled 3408 klm used 360 ltrs and cost $516.24. This worked out to 10.56 ltrs per 100 klm and $15.14 per 100 klm. Correct me I'm wrong with calculations. Approx 2000klm was bitumen, tyre pressures 40-44 psi and the other 1400klm gravel, rock and sand tracks running at 28 psi.
Have photos which i transfered on to a mini SD card but accidentally broke it.

2 questions: is it an auto and do you use cruise control? I use cruise control all the time, helps a lot I reckon. If the roads you travel aren't flat that would also lower your economy... i'm not driving up a lot of hills. I'm pretty sure there's a decent economy difference between 110 and 100 too from my observations.

2012 dual cab TD auto. 150,000 k. Standard 17" wheels/AT tyres. Bar/winch/rear bar/under body guards/2" lift.

9 - 9.5 highway 10 - 10.5 town.

Use only BP ultimate or if not available Caltex vortex.

Just dropped pan/flushed oil in box with Nulon Multi,(oil was dark but not burnt with sludge in pan and very fine filings almost sludge on the 3 magnets). Box is now smoother on the change and holds longer before changing. Will post any significant changes to fuel economy.

Just finished a trip to the nullarbor from Perth (basically eucla and back with a few stops, short trips and a few hours idling to boost the battery. Mostly drove at 110kph. 2906 km, averaged 11.33 L/100km. Actual figures at fill varied from 10.69 to 12.38. Had some decent headwinds both ways and the tub/canopy was literally full, with two fridges on the back seat and a passenger, so hauling a fair bit of weight.
Fuel figures by run were as follows:
Perth to coolgardie, 543km, 10.69 L/100
coolgardie to balladonia, 345km, 10.89 L/100
balladonia to caiguna, 176km, 12.38 L/100
caiguna to eucla, 327km, 11.93 L/100
eucla to cocklebiddy, with a bit of off road, some idling, some very slow back and forth crawling etc, 12.35 l/100
Cocklebiddy to Norseman, 424km, 11.46 L/100
Norseman to Coolgardie, 158km, 10.63 L/100
Coolgardie to Perth, 541km, 10.25 L/100

As a comparison, did a similar trip at christmas in my mates isuzu (2wd dual cab with a bull bar and same canopy as my vehicle) and we got 9.07 L/100 average over 2375km, maxing out at 10.37L/100 and minimum 8.3L/100km. Wasn't carrying as much weight nor as much draw on the alternator but still a reasonable difference at over 2L/100km!

Was just thinking (well not really but wondered if) I should have bought a D-Max, but then I looked at the "capped price" service costs and a little extra fuel seems pretty cheap :D

2014 4x4 D4D Xtra Cab manual.
Redback Extreme Duty 3" exhaust
KnN filter
EGR restrictor plate.

Consistently 7.5 - 7.9l/100km on the dash display. However, the calculation at the pump suggests 8.1 - 8.5l/100km

thats really good figures for that gear.

mine was 700km plus when i first purchased. now with rear bar , roof rack , awning and 32's prob about 670-650km a tank going be even worse when it gets it's lift, bull bar , winch and dual battery. is the general consensus that a chip ,tune and exhaust will help gain some better economy ??

that's good economy, what sort of speeds are you usually doing?

I remember those days fondly, but pushing 295/70/17' mud tyres along with all the other mods I was getting around 14L/100 on the highway (110km/h). after a recent EGR clean and retune, I'm now down to 12L/100 :)

Mostly 80km/h and below. Being my commute to work, shops, school etc.. Minimal highway use in a normal week.

I'm not a regular at the servo any more like I was with my previous commodore utes.

Bought my 2008 SR diesel new and like most got 760 to 800 when stock standard. Added the usual goodies and it dropped down to 660 with the extra weight. But after reading enough decided to chase down some fuel saving measures. Added the Tunit chip which made a difference. Keep the MAF and MAP clean and introduced the Delphi 296 and water separator after injector problems but the biggest change was a change of oil. I now use Magntec 5W-40 synthetic and even with all the extra weight my last trip managed 8.56 litres per 100. Used the trip metre and what was put back in the tank to full. Could not be happier. Waiting to replace the exhaust to a 3 inch staino system.

My driving habits change a bit. But when I'm doing 70km a day in rush hour traffic, I get 13.2 l/ 100 km. That's loaded with a full tray of tools.
Over the holidays I've been getting 11.8 l/100 km. That's highway driving with a empty tray. Towing a 2.4 ton digger or 1 cu gap 10.

06 V6 with 5 speed auto. 2015 17" wheels. 135kms on the clock.
