Recently got back from a country trip, Pity the speedo sensor on the gearbox went :( ~$560 for the part:shock:

2007 D/C, Man, sagged 2" suss Lift, 2" Blift, BBar, Winch, Buds Sliders, MR Bash plates including Transfer cross member, 265's on steelies NOTHING above roof height or roof bars and loaded with ~350kg Jerry cans, water tanks ,fridges etc etc

The run out of town: Perth to Hyden i got ~9.6l/100 sitting on 2000 rpm 96ish by GPS,filled in Kelmscott at start of Brookton hwy, ~314 K's refilled in Hyden 30ltrs at the bowser.

Into town: Southern Cross to Perth i got 10.6l/100 sitting on 104-106ish by GPS, Filled in SX ~350Ks
Refilled around the corner from home 37.5ltrs at the bowser

Also used another 97ltrs on 2 offroad treks with 100k of bitumen each but haven't worked out a way to calculate the distance

Im getting approx 11.5l/100km ;)

Thats with the extras, BullBar, steel Tray, Mud Tyres, side steps, tool box.

Can't complain, Beats my old V6 rodeo at 14l/100km. :(

Mostly city driving too. I find the Diesel hilux too thirsty above 80km/h. A 6th gear would be nice!

So what are you doing different to the Toyota factory figures of 11.1l/100km urban? You're claiming 25% better consumption than Toyota can manage themselves in their less than real world testing conditions... 850kms would be 7.6l/100km and that's heaps better than the factory combined figure of 8.7. You're claiming Extra-urban (country) figures driving mostly city? Sure?

I short shift my revs if it’s flat when taking off, it avoids the turbo coming on boost when it’s unnecessary. I keep it in top gear as much as I can without labouring the engine plus the route I take to and from work is pretty cruisy. I drive to work at 4am, so theres never anyone to hold me up and all the lights are green. That definitely helps!

I wasn’t sure if the tank was 65L or more, I just saw 65L written in the specs. But if it is more, then my figures of 810 - 850ks is from a full tank of diesel. I was surprised at the figures myself.

I was getting around 8.6/100 with a mix of town and highway. Jumped up to 9.3/100 with a set of Cooper AT3's.

Off road and beach driving it goes up to around 9.8/100

Still great figures but expect to jump inyo the 10's when bullbar and roof racks are added.

On highways is it more economical to use the cruise control or not? Opinions?

More economical, but only if it's relatively flat and little traffic in front. Also better for the leg muscles on those long 5-hour trips. That alone makes it worth its weight in gold for me.

Straight out of the box SR5 D4D Auto on the highway - only thing added Toyo AT2 265 65 17

Unloaded 62.28 l for 669 KLM = 9.3 l per 100klm ( 1,201 klm to 1,870 klm )

return with 1,400kg boat on the back 55l for 425 klm = 12.9 l per 100 klm ( 3,233klm to 3,658 klm )

used cruise control wherever we could and what a fine thing it is I must say

Just reviewing the last 10,000km my fuel usage you can see how I drive it but even so the usage only varies by a few litres each way.

Probably time to clean the manifold completely and get the most efficiency out of it.

Love the road trip app rory18, it's a great way to track usage.

8.97L/100 for my first tank in a manual SR5.I was a but dissapointed to see ultimate 98 was cheaper than diesel when I filled it the first time, but the next fill ultimate 98 was way more expensive and diesel price was exactly the same so liking the lack of the 20 cent weekly price cycle in diesel prices

Don't worry, I have experienced my fair share of cost difference in WA this year.

Definatelty achievable! I can beat that most times though mine is a stock 2010 d4d manual dc 2x4. Only mod is 215/70 as opposed to 205/70s. Measured on fuel in and kms as per the gps (my odo reads 1.5% low).

Combined, im always bewteen 7.6 and 8L/100km. I drive similar to LD, change at 2k rpm, use 5th alot and don't labour it.

Highway at 100kmh it a little higher at 7.9-8L/100km.

Ultra urban I can have it in the 6s no worries.

110kmh will see about 8 - 8.5 as the revs really hurt the econ

I rarely use the a/c

That 11.47 was just a once off, I have not been able to replicate it. I cant get under 12.8 no matter if its highway or around town, thats about it. How come there are some fella's with similar mods but still get around 10-11.5? Ive tried going back to the old cheese cutter tyres and that went down to 12.5. Cleaned map/maf snsor and filter and all the other stuff that i can find on this web site but still no glory. Any ideas would be appreciated

Filled up today, 2500km total, average is 9.28, app says i should get 820km per tank (78L). Pretty sure the car reckons my average is 8.6  I know which figure I believe.

Yeah so far I have found cruise control a killer along the Newell highway in my 2014 SR5. (Brisbane to Griffith)
I was getting around 8.6 for mixed urban/motorway at home, but the trip south has been around 9.2L/100.

Not sure if this is normal, but 9.2 isn't bad. Just thought 98% highway driving would of given better figures.
