Really? Have you tried it?
It doesn't seem to be that the 2 stroke lubricates the injectors more, it's that he 2stroke slows the detonation at the point of injection.
I don't know exactly why it works, but it does.

Did you use mineral or synthetic 2stroke oil?
You need to use mineral based oil NOT synthetic.
How much did you put in?
Ratio should be 200:1

That study seems to get posted fairly often in quite a few online "2 stroke in diesel" threads.

Whilst I'm fairly convinced the result is less wear, I can't shake the feeling that the 2-stroke will "thicken" the diesel and cause filters to get clogged more often.

Further is it possible that the "denser" diesel will cause dramas for injectors, which have extremely precise requirements even for the density of diesel (extreme example - look what water does to them) and that the resultant smoothness/quietness is actually the injectors creating a leaner combustion mix ever so slightly?

Afterall I've read in several places that modern day common rails tend to run slightly rich, if the mix was a bit leaner it should be quieter/smoother without much change in power but at the expense of a smaller "buffer zone".

This is all coming from a carpenter with no engineering experience and some third-party input from Scot(ch), so please feel free to lay my unqualified concerns to rest

Well I noticed under WOT and then gear change I got no black soot with 2 banger oil.

I dont think I will use it again to be honest my injectors are perfect after 1
218""ks no change either so I might just leave em.

I don't know exactly why it works, but it does.

Well, diesel fuel has enough lubrication in it already, and the components are designed around the diesel fuel.
That's it really.
If it was a two stroke engine, then that would be alright.
I do not recommend this practise at all.

Interesting little bit of research.
In the USA, the government doesn't have a standard for cetane on the fuel producers.
Over here in Australia it's 46 cetane and bio is 51 cetane.
Some companies in the states produce diesel fuels lower than 30 cetane. This is a very bad thing, especially in engines designed around the 50+ cetane requirement like say the Powerstroke range of diesel engines.
Ford USA had a huge problem with this, as it lead to many rebuilds and costly warranty claims.
It's now stated in their owner manuals, as do Toyota Australia, in this country. It states that you must use diesel fuel with a cetane value higher then 48 cetane.
Talking about warranty claims, if it's found out that you have been putting 2 stroke oil in your vehicle, your warranty claim will surely be wiped, and that's only fair, I think.

My mate was extremely broke (only worker and 2 kids) one week and his car was almost empty.

He filled up with the motorbikes 2 banger mix and his car ran but ran like shit lol.
The joke that week was keep the revs high and ring its neck to keep the plugs clean haha.

Too much 2 stroke

Postby GeeBung on Sat, 05 Apr 2014 12:29 +0000

Tried 2 stroke in the fuel tank today, short of the story filler in bad spot on the tray and i ended up putting 110ml too much in.
Tank is 140 lt requires 700ml i put 810ml in.

Will this cause damage?

Can i get away with doing a couple of hundred km's until i can fit more fuel in to dilute it?

I thought the general concenus was that 2 stroke in diesel works better in older mechanical injection systems than the common rail setups.

Shouldn't cause any issues. I have on many occasions added way to much oil cause of the same problem as you.
