loose wiring

hi ive got a loose contact( i think its called) it runs from the battery and splits off into two wires one small one to the starter and then the big loose one. does anyone know where this goes, cheers

Looks like the cable going to the starter motor, but difficult to see in this pic. Did you disconnect it or was it already flapping loose like this? Do you have an Anderson Plug somewhere? Just a couple of thoughts that might mean you don't have to climb underneath to trace it out.

Im 99% sure i disconnected it when removing the manifold or egr it must have been in the way, it goes from the battery to the starter. I cant see an anderson plug anywhere. Would i not just be able to cross match with another hilux? wasnt able to see any pictures or videos of what im after online.

If you have disconnected it, then you know where to reconnect it. Just make sure you put it back where it came from.
If you can't remember, then yeah, cross-reference it with another Hilux. If you want to check online, like on YouTube or something, then I'd suggest watching 50 to 100 clips before making a decision. After a while you'll start to see a pattern of informative clips and a pattern of complete dills. You can then decide which pattern to follow.

Is it from the positive or negative battery terminal and then splits into the two?

If the positive side, the heavy gauge black one should go to the starter motor and the lighter gauge white one goes to the fuse box terminal 1A (on the underside of the fuse box?) which should be connected to the fusible link area and one side of several of the larger Amp fuses.

If its the cable for the negative side of battery then one goes to the engine earth point (may need to confirm but I think is a bolt at the rear of the head or could be lower on the engine block) and the other to the mudguard/body earth point beside the battery.

Whatever it is, it's quite badly corroded. While you've got it free and easy, give a spray with some sort of anticorrosion spray. Joints like that are only a matter of time before they give you grief.

hey so double checked , theres a small black one going to the netagive terminal and a bigger black one going to positve then a smaller one goes to the starter motor and then the bigger ones loose. the loose big wire also has a smaller one next to it that bolts on to the chassis . sorry i cant explain it better. thanks.

I'd "GUESS" (I am only guessing) that it's either the engine main negative or the starter main positive.
Get it wrong and you'll have big problems.
I'd suggest trace it back and find where the other end of this cable goes to, this will help you identify it more easily.
