2005 Hilux p1251 code

Postby Ryan567 on Tue, 31 May 2022 6:26 +0000

Hi all new here , I'm having some issues with my 2005 sr5 Hilux and wanted to ask if anyone has any advice or has experienced it themselves.
Recently I'v replaced the turbo as the old one was tired and kept throwing a p0045 code , after installing the new turbo the car ran fine for a few weeks then started going into limp mode again with a p1251 stepper motor code . Things I'v done to resolve the issue are : had the turbo and stepper motor tested ( which resulted in pulling it back out and sending it off ) no problem found, installed a new turbo motor driver module and went through the loom looking for breaks ECT. Only has been going into limp mode once a day and mainly in the morning anywhere between 20 minutes to an hour of driving and mostly at slow speeds . Not sure where to go from here so any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers and apologies for the long post

Other things that I have recently done to the car are:
New injectors , new scv , full EGR and intake clean , new intercooler, timing belt and water pump, new map sensor filter, cleaned map/maf sensors , new connector plugs on the loom to the turbo

Not sure if this was the one, but I sorta half recall reading another post where someone said something about "Never Touch the Sensor". I feel certain that if I got it wrong that one of the "gurus" will chime in here.

Yes never touch the sensor wires! Clean the sensor with maf specific cleaning fluid... Spray it on the sensor wires inside the sensor but don't touch the wires with your fingers.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Thanks for the reply, I cleaned the the sensor's after the problem started but would a faulty sensor cause a p1251 code ?

Moisture around the steeper linkage would trigger it for me. these may help you:

Do you have either a larger exhaust and/or a blocked off EGR?

Blocking the EGR allows boost to stay in exhaust on decel rather than go thru EGR etc, and then that exceeds factory parameters.
Also a larger free flowing exhaust allows turbo to spool faster which can also make the turbo stepper motor work outside factory parameters.

Either way, a new stepper motor can fix it, or a full remap tune can stop it happening.
