Rhino backbone system

Has anyone had a go at putting one of the rhino backbone setups on their hilux? Only available for the current shape hilux, which is the same as the amarok kit. If so what one did you get? Ranger, triton, etc... Local place reckons they could get one to fit but they have never done it before and it scares the crap outta me having my car as the guinea pig haha.

Cheers. Saw that topic earlier while searching for pics, need one to fit the 05-15 hilux. Next option is the RLT600 legs, but the backbone looks so good

For those interested...sent an email to Rhino and they said they are releasing the backbone for the 05-15 hilux, but it's jot at the top of the list and couldn't give a time frame other then hopefully this year. Might just go the RLT600 legs

I was thinking about buying one of these myself, but I built my own as I wanted to have 2 x long tables sitting on the roof rack & then a 2nd level above that for the boxes & Rhino-Rack Weatherproof Luggage Bag (200L) (LB200)

The boss and kids want their own pillow doonas etc. so all of this goes on the 2nd level so I stay under the load limit for the racks.

The tables come off on the passenger side so no chance of falling on windscreen or bonnet.

Its taken a few years and a couple of prototypes, but I would have not spent more than $500 for everything - 2 x tables, luggage bag, timber, fixing ... incl. the $262 for Rhino 1200 x 550 x 400mm blue box.

I have been asked a few times "Who did you buy this from ???"

So, i went to the local ARB store today after organizing with them to do a test fit on my hilux when they got a set of the previously mentioned backbones in. Long story short, they do not fit perfectly. The middle support was sitting about 1mm above the rails in the roof. There must be a slight twist in the rails on the ranger/bt50 as when one foot (front or rear) was flat with the hilux rail, only one side of the other foot (front or rear) was contacting the roof, and not sitting flat fron to rear. I reckon it could be made to fit, but definitely not a perfect bolt on solution. We tried both the passenger and drivers side backbone on the drivers side of my hilux incase one fit better, but had similar issues with both. Hope this helps some people, unfortunately it looks like we need to keep waiting

I know this is about the backbone.

But honestly I own it on a 17 and after having it a couple years now yes the look is great but the practical side of it is flawed. Cleaning the roof is very difficult and the holes add even more wind noise straight to the roof (part of the reason I’m seriously considering sound deadening the roof)

Honestly if I was to do it again I would swap to say the RCL Leg (rhinos lowest leg) or the RLT600 quick mount leg which means you can have it off in a minute or two with the aid of an extra person.

Totally agree about practicality of cleaning. I went with the Rhino RLT600 for my Rhino platform (2012 SR5). Cleaning the roof is much easier, just unlatch 2 mounts at a time and you can hold the platform up one side at a time to get the sponge under.
No noise when unloaded but there is the odd noise/rattle when the Oztent is up there. Had it back to ARB and they shimmed the mounts to make release easier but the noise is still there.
