Advice & Information

Postby Kimiko on Fri, 24 Aug 2018 3:33 +0000

As a long time lurker I just want to say, this forum is an awesome source of information, it has already helped me so much.
So thank you to members and admin's for such an amazing job.

I currently own a bone stock 2008 SR dual cab with the canopy that has 60,000km on it (yes you read that right) due to health reasons... it hasn't seen much use.

Members would have gone trough some of the issues I'm interested in would it be possible to advise me in regards to

New headlights (the stock ones are getting a little frosty)
What fog lights would work best with the stock bumper
Wheel flare's and how they are attached (rather not drill holes in the metal)
Nudge bar vs bull bar vs stock (and does insurance change with that)

I like the fact these have a switch so I wouldn't have to put in a fog light steering column switch thing but, I'm not sure these are the right ones... the other 2008 variant has a big plastic arm thing on the light housing if that makes sense any idea what one can I use?

Talking to some friends and, they linked me a video of people painting their entire car in something called truck bed liner... as far as I can figure out its some sort of rubberized coating like plasti dip just wondering has anyone tried it out (I would really like to see) & also is it reversible like plasti dip?

No not reversible like plasti dip at all, very hard to remove
Ideal for putting over a beat up truck

If you go to a panelbeater, they can fix your headlights for about $100, they will use wet and dry sandpaper to sand off the shit frosting, then polish out the sanding scratches. Usually sanding with 800, then 2000, maybe even finer like 3000/ 4000 to make polishing quicker. Fog lights do bugger all as far as light output, grab some spotties and a unibar to mount them to.

You can grab a $10 to $20 headlight kit off ebay that'll do most / all of the job if there not too bad. I had one really f$@#&% one and ended up buying a new set off ebay for about $130.

They fit well and look good. ONly time will tell if they are up to the task as they have only been on for a week.

It took me about 3 hours to fit them but I am a numpty with that type of stuff and I spent a fair bit of time cleaning shit out from under the grill etc whilst it was off the car.

You need to remove the grill, pop the sides of the bumper off to get to the side bolts, heaven help you if you have a bull bar as I think you'd have to remove it, and loosen the liner in the wheel arch to get underneath.

Tip: If you do it fir the globes before you install the headlight. Most were ok but the passenger side indicator nearly did my head in.

You can get them out with a bull bar, but it is a bit fiddly
I've had 2 headlights replaced on warranty as they keep fogging up in the rain (small hairline manufacturing crack in the black plastic backing)
