LN106 Injection Pump Sprocket Nut hard to get off

Postby Earthling4469a on Sat, 08 Apr 2017 7:24 +0000

Have a '92 diesel LN106 and the injection pump sprocket nut is super hard to get off. I've put 2 bolts to the drive sprocket hub and levered against the bolts with a large screw driver whilst trying to move the nut with a ring spanner (as recommended in the gregorys book), but the bolts just bend.
Any ideas on how to move this nut?
One suggestion I read was to try with the timing belt on, which I will try tomorrow however I don't think this will work....its super tight. Plus I don't really want to damage the belt as I was going to reuse it (replaced 40k ago).

Another I thought of is to use high tensile bolts which wont bend, but will have to wait till Monday :(

Any other ideas?

Timing belt on and pneumatics. A rattle gun for the 3Ls. Same with the 5Ls and the 5LEs. ;)

Just a heads up dont cheap out on the rattle gun or youll be buying one twice. I got a makita brushed 18v and its pretty useless for anything that needs real force ended up getting a total tools twin hammer air one its great. Another tip for air rattle guns is if they dont have the guts to crack a bolt and you need a little more pull off the air line and fill it with pnuematic tool oil. It will make a lot of mess but will have a lot more hit for the first little bit

Mate came around with a cheapie and it was useless, added some oil and still nothing :(

Got the ring spanner with some extra length added and whilst in gear gave her a good hard pull and she came of with a crack :)

Thanks for all the replies guys, I appreciate it

Was this the normal version looks same as 1/4"or the BIG version? I used to have the big version, massive head on it that would snap wheel nuts with fully charged battery :)
I now run Milwaukee, got this one a few days ago, with 9AH batteries can't waste another dollar on dragging around air lines. Looking forward to cracking nuts with it Image
