Fuel pump or chip?

Fuel pump or chip?

Postby hilux_03 on Tue, 13 Aug 2013 8:54 +0000

Hey guys just need a more precise answer on this... im wanting to turbo charge my 03 Hilux 5L-E engine, as its gutless and im running 32's so has some negative effects on engine performance.

Atm ive figured out pretty much all the mechanical side to boosting except adding fuel, stumped on this one :/

Ive been reading up that a piggy back is the only way, Tunit, DP chip etc etc, but they are pretty pricey for a piggy back system! Im amazed at how pricey they are as coming back from a high performance turbo 4 cylinder back ground u can pickup a full re-programmable ecu for same price haha.

So is chip the only way to add fuel to compensate for the added boost with out causing it to lean out too much and causing hot engine temps or throwing a rod out the block?

Ive also heard that we can calibrate the 5l-e pump, but have no idea on cost on it or who does it in vic.

cheers guys

Some turbo kits come with a chip. It will be a fuel adjusting unit only. Diesels like lean, over fuelling is what breaks them, causing high egts. Buy a quality brand, you won't go wrong. The pump would need to be removed to calibrate, but have never heard of it being done.
