09 v6 not starting ..fuel problems? any ideas

Postby 4byute on Wed, 08 May 2013 6:08 +0000

i went to leave work on friday and my 09 v6 sr5 wouldnt start thought it may have been the battery so i replaced it and still no go ended up calling nrma who found a blown fuse to the fuel pump after that it still wouldnt start abit more mucking around and he ended up removing the ignition relay and shorting the terminals and said he suspected it to be some sort of electrical problem or possibly the imobiliser any way i drove it the 40 or so kms home without an issue but when i tried to start it on saturday to take it to my mechanic and i wouldnt start after a bit of mucking around i got it started but as soon as i put it in drive it died then took ages to get it started got it going had it idleing for about half an hour then same thing as soon as i tried to drive it it died

anyway i called nrma to get a tow and they sent a mechanic out who failed to get it going and organised a tow truck anyway while waiting for the tow i had another got at starting it and started fine and drove as if there was nothing wrong it tried 3 more times and was fine all 3 times i got the tow anyway just in case and once at the workshop it decided not to start again anway my mechanic suspected a block fuel filter which is exactly what it was after replacing it it started and drove fine for the next 3 days and 250 or so kms
then this after noon driving home i started having accelleration issues as soon as i hit around 70 to 80 kmh it just stopped accellerating but then id back off and it would be fine

i tried put my foot flat to the floor and it would either just instantly stop acellerating or just rev right up and drop then rev up and drop but without hitting the limiter

i then went out to start it tonight and once again it wouldnt start ..... alternator is fine battery is fine no blown fuses and i can hear the fuel pump running anyone got any ideas ? its really starting to do my head in ... its going back to my mechanic asap

hey,
sounds like it could be the fuel pump on its way out mate..
yes you can hear the fuel pump but it probably isnt putting out
enough fuel to run the engine suffficiently all the time...
just a seggestion mate..

im sort of thinking that it only has about 60 000 kms on it though im worried that some of the crap may have got through into the pump and injectors

Or your tank could be full of crap and the fuel filter has blocked up again....

was the fuel filter real dirty when you changed it?
it might only be the pick up blocked in the tank too.
