resetting after a engine overhaul..

Postby kishna on Sat, 16 Mar 2013 11:43 +0000

i just bought a second hand toyota hilux d4d 2005 model, as per checking their is a leak on its engine and too much smoke going out. so we dicide to do an engine overhaul. after the engine overhaul the hilux does not starting contnously... when we check the fuel injector their is no enough pressure for the fuel to flow... so after few days i talk to someone who works from toyota and told me when the engine were pulled down there must be a resetting done to the injection pump to make it work...is this true or they just dong a usual business?

I can't see why the injector pump would need "resetting", I'm not sure what they would reset? what is more likely is the pressure valve in the fuel rail is stuffed or needs new o-rings on it.

Agreed, Krishna, you really would need to get this thing to a Diesel Specialist to plug in a Proper scan tool. THere will be one locally to you, but they will be able to check all about the pump, Rail and Injectors, and therefore be able to isolate it down.

Failing to go to a PROPER shop will no doubt lead to someone guessing (and Spending BIG$$$ in the process) until they strike it correct. Spending $350 odd on proper diagnotics and fault finding can save you multiple thousands.

Last peice of advise, shop arround. Injectors for example can range from $1000 (from us - shame less plug) to 5000+ from toyota. Same goes for the rail, sensors and pumps. Its worht the 30 minutes or so to do a proper google search.
