Which OME setup is right for me?

Which OME setup is right for me?

Hello all

New to this site and must say I have found heaps of useful info!
I have just ordered myself a new SR extra cab hilux!
Turbo diesel manual of course. I have OME suspension going in it straight away from new.
I'm going the stiffest springs in front as the ute has a ARB bullbar and soon to have a winch.
The rear springs is what I'm having trouble deciding on.
It will have a HD Steel tray and a built in water tank. It will rarely have anything on the tray, once every few months I will go away with a few hundred kgs. Also on the to do list is a long range fuel tank and a lot of other mods to set it up for touring. Should I go for the 600kg constant load springs or do you guys thing the 400kg constants will be enough?

Thanks guys!

Those steel trays can be terrifyingly heavy, let alone one marked HD.

You have a much better chance of making the right spring choice for your needs if you can get a pretty accurate idea of the weight of the tray. NOT a stubby in hand wild guess.

Weighbridge or scales can be helpful also, as a long, heavy tray can transfer weight from the front axle to the rear.

If you have a cutting list for the tray build, it can be calculated pretty accurately, but such fiddling is not everyone's cup of tea.

Okay thanks for the input mate I'll try to find out the weight of the tray build :)

Had a look into it and found they Toyota genuine HD steel tray for an extra cab weights 260kg so working on the basis mine will weight approx 300kg I think the 600kg springs are the right choice. Once I fill a water tank and a long range fuel tank it's already at 400 with no gear!

Get the 887 prado coils in the front on nitro sport struts and depends on your liking. . Get heavy duty leafs to take the weight of the tray and future loads. Or you can go medium leafs and get airbags for when you have a load on there and also have a smooth ride when unloaded.

Yeah I'm still trying to decide, if I go the 400s the ute should sit a lot nicer when it's unloaded. So idk I'll have to let the dealer know tomorrow though. Also I realise you can add an extra leaf for another 200kgs. Maybe if I go the 400s and then when I'm ready to do a bit of touring get the extra leaf put in.

I think that 400/600 refers to CONSTANT load ?? With only your empty tray, either of them will be pretty stiff.

If you can bump them from 400 to 600 without too much drama, I would go 400 and see how it works for you. The "constant load" rating is just that - they will both be pretty firm. Who knows - the 400s may be fine with your touring load.

Yeah that's a good point but In the ARB spring selection page it says to include the weight of your tray when selecting spring. I'm thinking I'll go the 400s now anyway and see how they go because I think I would lose to much flex with the 600s.
