"3 and above problems with the law

Postby Fazz on Tue, 11 Feb 2014 9:11 +0000

Hey gang,

just interested to see how many people are running bigger than 2" and haven't got it engineered. Mainly interested in the NSW demographic :ugeek: , because I'd love to run a 3"+ but don't want to have to pay the additional $2k to be engineered :? .

Hey mate, I'm in qld but driven through nsw a fair bit and even got pulled over for a rbt several times and nothing had been said. In my opinion if your rig is clean and your doing the right thing they don't seem to care. Having said that I believe my hilux is no where near on the "extreme" side of things. However my mate has the same set-up but with an xrox bar which seems to exaggerate the look :?

Cheers

I would get it engineered. Not just for the cops, but if your in an accident and the accessor is on the ball they can wipe your insurance.
I even got my wheels and tyre engineered, when others wouldn't of bothered. Only 15mm wider track and 31.5", but I know my arse is covered.

I agree with Andy.

NSW hasn't been enforcing a lot of the suspension and tyre laws as everything is still under review.

Once the laws are finalised, there will be more inspections and defect notices. The RTA has put together a comprehensive data base for all vehicles which shows factory trim heights and tyre sizes. Any police officer or RTA inspector will be able to get an accurate measurement on the side of the road showing exactly what lift you have.

On the plus side, they are making it easier and cheaper to engineer vehicles.

When do you think this might happen Brendan  as I might wait till it does and pick up a really cheap lifted wagon, throw a few bucks at engineering it and end up with a weapon for a bargin

Just be grateful that you can, in qld doesn't matter if you engineer it or not. Anything over 2" and the cops will fine you

Hopefully the new laws will be sorted by the end of March. It's been dragging on forever

You will already see of lot of second extended shackles and the like being sold on eBay. Over the last 6 months, we have had a massive increase in the sale of shackles from guys who have been defected.

Any idea on W.A. laws on the lift topic?

I have 3" lift with 265/75/16 tyres so I'd be over.
On another note, you say qld is strict, how do all the blokes on 4wd action go? I bet all their rigs aren't engineered.

I just came back from a trip, and the boys in Blue had a mixture of four wheelers pulled over at the bottom of The Blue Mountains and were going over them with tape measures.
One owner was being given a ticket of some description.
