Extended Shackles onto 2inch Lift

Extended Shackles onto 2inch Lift

Postby ZAPZAP on Fri, 30 Aug 2013 3:35 +0000

Lads,
Did a 2inch tough dog lift about a month back. I didnt change my original shackles.

My question is (hopefully someone knows), if i put extended shackles from someone like snake racing, will it be ok on the already raised 2inch lift?

Can't see why not, although it will raise the rear further (obviously) but that may make it look even more stupid with the "road sniffer" or nose down look that the hilux already has.

It will work however you will have a 4in lift over all. You can get grease able shackles in standard height. I run a 2in spring and extended shackle. If you lift it that much take a look at the brake proportioning valve spacers.
\Why do you want to change the shackles

A "standard" set of Snake Racing or Monster Rides, etc. extended shackles will give you an additional 1" of lift. 28mm to be exact if my foggy memory recalls. You only get less than half the high of the shackle because you only apply the lift to one end of the spring. This of course assumes that the shackle is vertical, which its not so the effective lift is reduced again. Hope this helps.
Cheers Rod

I assumed I needed to change the shackles from the stock toyota ones. In this case I would go something better than standard again and the extended ones from snake racing (for eg) seemed the likely fit.

I will wait to fit the steel bar and winch before making any further decisions on the rear.

thanks lads
