Torsion bar lift and shocks IFS 2003 Lux

Noob lux modifier here hahaha

Hey guys, just brought a set of 32x11.5R15 on 15x8 +0 set, an seems to rub like crazy!!!

Ive looked over a few cheap alternative ways to increase the front end, and the main one was to wind up the torsion bar, that i will most likely get the tire shop to do so, as increasing height = toe settings messing up

But with winding up the torsion bar up by 30mm, and adding extended shockers 30mm be enough to clear the tyres?

The lux was a ex-goverment car, so i doubt it has ever had its torsion bars adjusted, besides the aftermarket shocks which i think are dead, lots of brown gunk build up around the base of the shock. Could this also cause a lower ride height in this instance?

Ive read up plenty on ln167 lux running 32's fine on stock height, but on ours its rubbing :(

cheers guys

mine rubbed on 31's on the driver side mud flap. need a proper wheel alignment. ask them to add castor or even max it and you might get away with it.
if not, you might have to consider raising the rear as well if you are going to crank the torsion bars up front.
either lift blocks in the rear or new springs.

otherwise another cheap alternative is to do a body lift. requires a bit of messing around but can be done for around $200.

yeah 31's or 265/70r16 which we have on atm, rubbed with the mud flaps, but it wasnt an issue as it didnt rub on the body, but this how ever rubs on the body which is a whole different issue haha, kinda regret not getting 31's now :(

May seriously consider a 1-2inch lift, but its just easier to swap to 31's, but i much prefer 32's, decisions, decisions arghahaghaga!!!!!!!!

If u wind the bars up enough it will clear the tyres but it will ride like shit and have bugger all droop... Better off lifting the body or doing a combination of both

Yeh they don't have any problems cause they wind the bars up .. It will work fine bud just wind up the bolts (21mm spanner from memory) and take off your front mud flaps or get a Stanley knife out and do a bit of trimming. You have to wind the bars a little bit anyway for 31's to fit without scrubbing

11 year old suspension? Might be time to look at a new setup? If its rubbing on road then its only going to get worse off road!

Good luck Mike

Agreed. Better off forking out the coin for a 2" lift with new shocks all round. then once the T. Bar is wound up it won't drive like such a pig

fyi im running 305/70/16's(33's) on a 16x8 zero offset with only a body lift.
give the front mud flaps a trim back, the flares need trimming slightly if you have them and you need to bash back the body sill and also a bit of the fender at the bottom.

32's can probably fit with a bit of bashing and trimming no probs.

Not a fan of body lift, but suspension lift is defs on the cards for future upgrades.

Good news guys, slight body bashing with the rubber mallet an heat gun with trimming did the trick :D

Bad news is the Torsion bolts are sized up :(

Went into pedders to adjust the height, drivers side is fine, passengers side is stuck, even with a gun they couldnt undo it, said it have to be cut off and replace...

Toyota said they can get them torsion bar bolts an half moon in but its gonna b a long wait as they dont stock em, Toyota recommended just any high tensile bolts will do the trick, not so confident with that answer haha, any one know of a place that sells the bolts for torsion bars?

cheers guys, learning alot here

go to wreckers for bolts if you end up snapping them. also they tend to seize up due to dirt and sand etc getting into the recess of the nut. you'll see what i mean when you have one out.
best way to get it loose is to shower it in wd-40 and let it sit overnight. grab a compressor or air can and blow out all the crap thats sitting there.

you will find a lot of crap flying out which gets caught in the threads as you try to unwind it. you can tighten it but not unwind. you should be able to get it moving.
i snapped my drivers side one due to all the dirt, passenger side came out like a breeze after doing what i said above.

after you remove it, give the threads a good clean and you should be able to get the height you want.

Hi guys, sorry to jump in on an old conversation but i have searched this forum and googled like hell, but i cant seem to find original specs and where to measure standard ride height on my 1998 SR5 petrol dual cab. I have just bought the car and it hasnt been modded at all (it's is bog stock standard) i would like to lift it but would also to start from stock as i think it may have sagged quite abit. Any help would be most appreciated
