2004 SR5 WHEEL & TYRE HELP/ADVICE

Postby robbo_000 on Sun, 17 Apr 2011 11:34 +0000

gday all.

im a newy to the 4x4 scene so i have very little knowledge with the INS & outs of the scene.

make/model.
2004 sr5 hilux
2'' body 2'' suspension lift
currently running 32x11.5R15 Geolanders on KING 15x10 sunraysia type wheels, Unsure of offset but they stick out the guards quite a bit.

Wanting to fit new rims & tyres, keen on goin 33'' but the 32.11.5s im currently running already scrub a bit but im thinking maybe because they are a bit too wide ? im probably wrong though.

would like to go 16'' but have been looking at 33x10.5r15''s
i believe BFG make these in the AT's & MT's. & going just sunraysia type wheel again but goin back to a 15x8 rim & once again im unsure of what offset i should be chasing, have hear cruiser offset but im not 100% & i dont know what the cruiser offset accualy is. otherwise looking at 16x8 Rims & 285/75/16 tyres seem to be pretty popular where i have been looking online.

but yeh, im just chasing some knowledge from some people that have experience with fitting 33''s or similar size tyres to there IFS LUX & how to eliminate/ minimise the scrub & what offset to get & so on.

thanks all
any advice will be much appreciated
cheers.

ohhh & one other thing, im chasing a set of Flares to fit my lux but wider ones, having a hard time trying to find wider flares to keep the tyres inside.

just wondering if anybody knows of places that sell any fiberglass flares that are wider than standard.

thanks

Try Flexy flares:

Hi,

Did you get any response to your query? I'm having similar issues with a 2002 IFS hilux and debating whether to go to 32's like you already had on or if going to 16's will negate the problem. To go to 33's I've been told I have to put in a $3200 suspension kit from Snake Racing or Superior Engineering when I've already got a 2 inch lift and 2 inch body lift. Interested to see how you went.
Ideally i'd like 33x12.5R15 but if I can get away with the suspension i'm running now and only go to 32X11.5R15 i'll stick with that.

Thanks.

285/75/16 will be the easy route, you just need zero offset wheels that are 8" wide.
ideally 2" suspension and 2" body lift will work but I have managed to get 285/75/16's (pretty much a 33x10.5) to fit without scrub on the SR5 model with front mud flaps still attached.

you'll have to hack at a few things like the front mudflap, rear front flare arches, and flatten that body sill just next to the front mud flap.
I've managed to fit 305/70/16 with that same setup and only slightly rub on full flex.

regards to wheels sitting in the guards, 8" wide and 285's sit in nicely, 305's are pushing the limits.

As kAm said you're good to go with 2" suspension and 2" body lift to fit the 33" or 285/75. The offset is important though. Some trimming and hammering will be needed at the guards for the front wheel.

Hey, I had 32x11.5xR15 on -22 sunny's on both my lux's... 2" BL and 2" suspension lift worked well. I believe offset was important to minimise scrubbing (in case your wondering, it only scrubbed on full lock and compressed up).

The scrubbing happened on the sway bar a little bit and the inner guard just touched it, but it really wasn't a worry.

For 33's, i'm in the process of SASing mine haha (but not cus 33's didn't fit my IFS  )

Thanks for the advice, I'm currently running 15x8 sunraysias but unsure of the offset but I'll check today. I already had the drivers side mudguard chewed out running 31x10.5x15 but the passenger side survived. After a body lift to go with the 2" tjm xgs lift it solved that problem but now wondering if I can keep the 15's (depending on offset) and go to the 33x10.5x15 or should I get new 16" rims and have no issues?
Cheers.

The skinny 33 will definitely mate it easier to fit. I'd recommend getting a wheel alignment and ask them to max the castor. That will minimize any guard rubbing that's caused by a bad alignment.
You should have no problem with 2" lift and 2"body lift. Change your offset to zero and you should be fine.

Hi again,
Struggling to find wheels with 0 offset in Adelaide. I have spoken with Adelaide wheel and rim works and they can only get -13 in a 16 for me and no chance of a 15 inch. Any suggestions as to what company I should use for a set of 0 offset?

Cheers
