Difference in offset between solid front axle and IFS

G'day

I have searched but havent had any joy finding answers to my questions .

When Toyota changed the Hilux from Solid front axle to IFS did they change the size / backspace / offset of the wheels .
I'm in the process of trying to restore a 1996 2.8 dual cab Hilux ( last of the solid front axles ) . It had ROH alloy mags on it when I purchased it .
I would like to put some narrower steel rims painted grey on it to recreate a more original look , but still be able to run tubeless tyres instead of the original split rims with their tubes and balancing troubles (I'm showing my age , but i've owned to many utes with split rims to ever want to go back to them :D )
Does anyone know what sized steel rim I should be ordering to fit a 1996 2.8 solid front axle and running 29 inch skinny tyres ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ken

PS - I've tried a few more modern Hilux rims of mine to see if they would work , but are all wrong and rub and dont fit .

wheel offset did not change wheel track did
rear diff housing , front hubs spacers
all can be fitted to ln106 with a gain of 30mm
give better stability and better ride
am not sure about rims thought they also came out with
15inch sunraisers

The original grey split rims that were fitted were 16 x 5.5, with a 0 offset. (That gives a backspacing of about 70mm.)
As an example, Mullins/CSA do aftermarket 16 x 6" rim with 0 offset.

Then, a set of 205R16's or 225/75R16's wrapped around them.

I seem to recall that earlier Patrol did a 6" rim, that came in 2 offsets, 0, and +13? (I think). These are very hard to find now, probably. You would want the 0's. These had small tabs on the centrebore that need to be ground back to fit.

I found white knight Medium Grey to be a very close colour.

Thanks mate .

That is the exact info I was chasing , I know it is unusual to be wanting skinny tyres in this day and age of bigger is better , but i really want that original look that only skinny tyres have .
