Rubbing on left side......

Postby rusty-ben on Sun, 07 Apr 2013 3:33 +0000

Hi All,

Wondering if any of you can help, I lifted the my truck (Hilux D4D 2007 2.5) 2.75 on front and 1 on the rear. For some strange reason every time I turn left, not full lock, but a full turn of the wheel my tyre rubs, on the inner arch, but right doesn't, I can fit my finger between the tyre on lock on the right, but only about half on the left, any ideas? I maybe jumping the gun mind, as I haven't had them re-aligned yet...... Could this be the problem? I heard that on some cars the opposite side to the driver wheel is slightly closer in, due to turning/continents etc, or is this a load of bull?

As above, must get a wheel alignment as soon as you lift the truck and fitted bigger wheels

Same on my 12, I got a lift and bigger wheels and balance and alignment, it only scrubs when I'm reversing sometimes though!?

yeah mine has always done that too.. only when reversing and only on full lock on the front passenger tire.. BUT.. i AM running a -11 offset which pushes the wheels out a lot further.. it 'just' touchs the edge of the plastic flare.. always been aligned and everything is perfect.. i dont care. dosent affect it at all.. if i put my muds on with std +30 offset they dont touch at all..

I was forced to get mine aligned after slipping off a trail in the wet into a culvert pushed the wheel well back on the passenger side. A reputable wheel aligner such as Pro axle and they can adjust it in minutes. I had it done at Jax first and wasted my money. FWIW

They commonly rub on the left side because this side sits lower than the right.

This is due to the weigh of the battery and fuel tank on this side.

Grab a tape measure and check. You will never be able to pick it by eye though unless someone told you....

Just though I would add mine sits lower on left side too and tyre hits body mount too only on left side so I'm putting my tool box on the right to try and counter the weight.
