confused what wheels ive got and need

Postby Thumpa on Mon, 30 Apr 2012 7:59 +0000

Hi all

Just bought my 1st Hilux. Black 2009 sr5 TD.
It was advertised as having 17's but the tyres are 255/55R18. to me that means they are 18inch,right?

But when i measured the rim from edge to edge across it measures 19inchs. so yes im confused. I couldnt work out how to put photos up to show what i mean.

The tyres are shitty so i want to get some All terrain/off roady's but cant find any to fit my rims(18's or19's) and with my stock suspension without scrubbing. i wont be climbing mountains yet, just camping and alitle off road and beach fishing.

Any ideas what i can do or should do? or will i have to end up buying some smaller rims. i cant afford a lift kit for awhile either.

and yes ive search this forum heaps and cant find the answer im looking for and getting more confused with all the talk of tyre/offset/lift kit/33's/32's/16's etc etc

Cheers

with no mods or lift kit youd best stick with 31inch rubber on 16-what ever you want.
see: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=3765 This covers heaps even tread types
32 inch requires lift kit 50mm and mud guard removal.
for any thing bigger (33's) see:

I've got 2" snake racing coil spacers in the front of mine running 265x70x17 (32"?) MT ATZ 4's with all my mud guards still in tact.

they physically are 19" but the manufactures measure from where the bead sits on the inside of the rim which would measure 18"

I was interested in what they would be so i did a little search my self. Seems with lack of tyre options and the exxagerated price of 18" tyres it might be worth it to sell the 18's buy 17 or 16 inch rims and come out way cheaper.
Just my 2 centavos.

hey mate coil spacers sit on top of the front struts lifting the vehicle height, they can be had for as little as $200 from 4x4 shops online, that would be your cheapest lift.
Tyre prices vary alot, 15 and 16inch would bag out better on the beach, imo
