2 inch lift, 265 75 r16 on 2010 hilux, search=no help

Postby finch212 on Tue, 20 Dec 2011 11:43 +0000

Ive been scanning this forum for weeks trying to find a good combo for my 2010 hilux, it is not for serious offroad just a daily driver and a weekender. I have decided on a 2inch lift (front spacers and extended shackles) but cannot get an exact answer on tyres. I am looking at either cooper or BFg 265/75/r16 or 285/75/r16 on a 16x8/+0 offset rim will these combinations fit? sorry I am only new to the 4x4 scene and am stuggling for answers, Please help!

Yes finch you might have to broaden your search a little but there is a lot of info, Here is a thread that gives you an idea of the dangers of what your looking at. There are a couple that run them and havnt had a problem but in general you would stay clear. Definately be staying with the 265s 285/75 on a 2 inch is going to scrape, viewtopic.php?f=28&t=5959&hilit=front+spacers viewtopic.php?f=27&t=3765&hilit=tyre+survey To have a look at what some of the guys are running

2010 Hilux, 265/75 16r bfg all terrains on 16x8 sunraysia's, no lift kit or suspension mods. Front tires rub on full lock only, anyone else had this issue? Thinking about removing the mud flap??
Also, does anyone know the rules for wheels hanging out past the guards? Should I fit sr5 moulds at the front or can I get away with it with the scrub bars??

Cheers

My belief is the law states you cannot see the tyre from a birds-eye view of the vehicle (not including side wall buldge) so while you should be fine with scrub bars a cop could still defect you for it as there is a gap between car and bar (therefore seeing tyre).

Go BIG and WIDE as possible then run the gauntlet.

Living in a less than ideal area where the cops are under manned, over worked and have poor morale chasing oxygen thieves everyday helps too. :)

to run this tyre size, most people would install a 2" (50mm) lift

and I'd look at getting flares, not from a legal pov, but just to keep mud and dirt spray to a minimum

I was running these tyres on 15mm lift with no problems at all, tyre wise. I was bottom bouncing up every trail when we went wheelin, but that's a storey for a different time. I was still running the stock mud flaps too. A lot of it is in your wheel alignment and rim offset. After wheelin one day I had an alignment issue, took it in to my regular place only to find regular aligner had left and some other new dude had a crack at it. 20 mins later he backs my car out and parks it and as he's turning the front tyres are just about ripping my mud flaps off. Gets out and tells me how perfectly aligned it is and it's smack on spec with Toyota, then tells me I need to fit smaller tyres as those ones are too big and rubbing. I kinda not so politely told him that the tyres have been on there for 60,000km without issue and maybe he should go and crank some more caster into it or he's not getting paid. Since then I've found a better alignment shop that actually knows what they are doing.

Adding caster moves your front wheels forward away from your mud flaps.
Cheers Rod
