Alloy 17" wheels for 2012 model sr5

Postby saab463 on Mon, 19 Sep 2011 8:22 +0000

I am taking delivery of a 2012 SR5 Dual cab later this week and am looking to change the original wheels.
Have looked at the range from Allied,CSA and Mickey Thompson, but quite frankly, dont like any of them.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

Hey mate..

Im in the same boat as you im just waiting for my ABN to come through to put the vehicle under.. So hopefully next week i get my 2011 Hilux Sr5..

Im considering getting these wheels,

http://www.methodracewheels.com/products/

very good quality, a friend of mine in the states knows the owner i wont get the race versions but the street wheels do look pretty cool and fairly decent priced, and shipping for about 5 rims is about 400 - 500 us.. air freight...

My only question is what back spacing are people running, I want the wheels to have more of a standard offset i.e. the truck a bit of stance any recommendations?

Also going to probably run 3" lift with 265/75/17 would love to run 285/75/17 however Ive heard with a 3" lift It wont be enought

If you want to run a factory offset of p30 to p20 then a 265 or 32" is your option.

If you go for a p10 - p14 a 285 with trimming will work with a 3" lift

Would seem with a -12 off-set and a 9" rim, you will be cutting the body mount and doing allot of trimming. Will give a wide stance though once you get them to work

Hi mate, I have 20x9 Pro Comps in a positive 6 offset with 305x55x20s...i have mildly trimmed the body mount, the front bar and some out of the rear of the flair. I do have MR upper control arms...with out these I would have hit the stock control arms for sure. Im just hitting on the sway bar on full lock but not anywhere else (full compression is yet to be tested so the pinch weld will be an issue i think). Based on the experience of setting mine up i think somewhere around a 0 offset on the 9 inch rim would have worked well. I believe you will find the -12 on the 9 inch rim is going to require a fair chunk out of the body mount....this is only my experience. I think tyre choice will play a part as I'm told for example the Mickey Thompson are a bit narrower than other etc.

My rim/tyre sits a fair bit outside the wheel arch so an extra 18mm is going to have them out there for sure!

In any case good luck with it and enjoy it.

On the standard rim you can only go with 265/75/17 and then you are pushing it, as the inside of the wheel arches are very close to the bigger tire that Toyota has put on the new hilux as standard tyre that comes on the truck is 265/70/17

It would be best to go for a lift as it solves lots of articulation problems. You dont have to do it as extream as others but it is better
