From what I can find there seems a default

You want to make sure alarm and horn can't be disabled (as they seem do that). Hotwiring is possible, then they drive away
(editted the above as the list was to detailed.)

I'd propose:

a hidden switch that breaks the + to starter and leads this to an extra loud horn... (preferrably to a relay that stays ON once activated until a special key is pressed)

A gear lock which locks the reverse might help, too.
A GPS tracker might help with the "normal" thief but not if a "professional" gets his fingers on it.
_ALL_ stock anti theft devices have ways to get around, because they are stock and though easy to know about.

I've been considering a bearlock, gearbox locks that are apparently quite strong. Only trick left is to depress the clutch and tow it off then.

Ok, why don't we just advertise the easiest way to steal hilux's.

You have started a thread that will come up on most searches in the world, good thinking.

Maybe a hidden fuel cut off mechanical switch may be worthwhile for most situations?

If a thief can really just easily disconnect a horn and also cut alarm wires, that sounds like there was never any security. In this case, is good for you to know

At the end of the day, if a car thief wants a car bad enough, they will take it. At best all you can do is slow them down.

I worked with a guy in Sydney who had a immaculate XE Falcon ESP, he used to chain it to the floor of the garage, and with that, he had freaky auto electrical work done to the car. From memory, it was a certain combination of foot brake/indicator/headlight combination that had to be in a certain switch position before the car could be kicked over.

Unfortunately we now live in society where everyone has a sense of entitlement, and no one wants to actually work for anything anymore.

Me personally, if my Hilux was stolen, I wouldn't want it back, I would be more pissed of over the fact that the personalised plates would be missing. Here in NSW, once they are reported lost or stolen, they are flagged as such, and they are never re-issued.

I've edited my 2nd post to hide details. Details are out of that post. However this information is already available on google in 20 minutes of searching, including video's.

The method is clear to me by know and won't be posted here.

simple but effective coutermeasures:
- wire horn over another fuse.
- add a control wire over the alarm wire loom to set of a standalone alarm when disconnected (can be a simple purse / bag alarm with a trip wire as long as you find a way to keep battery charged)
- maybe a gearboxlock

Basically:
- If they really want it they'll get it.
- Custom alarms are likely more effective as they can't train on them. However if you are in a area where noone could/would respond to an alarm a good gearboxlock (not gearboxSTICK lock) might be most frustrating.

I still see the odd steering wheel lock going around these days. Even on flashy cars

Sherif wheel clamp works well
And stops Parking fines as well

switches don't seem to work as people find them or have herd from friends of friends where they are
Another one is battery disconnect

Without going into the reason, cover any place that shows your VIN number. Mainly chassis rail in the wheel arch and your rego label. If you see the VIN number has been wiped or cleaned on your chassis it may mean someone is making plans to steal it.

You don't need that anymore
All you need is the reg plate and the rest is on your local rta site for free

A good gps tracker (100$+) with some additional options like remotely fuel pump cutoff etc...and an installer that knows his job(nicely hidden).

I like the gps tracker idea with remote fuel shut off. Gives me hope. But I think I'll keep it fully insured.

dummy "kill switch" to send power to a loud horn and lock the doors great idea.....pure genius....panic will set in immediately.

downside u might have to clean drivers seat...
