Behind seat rifle rack

Behind seat rifle rack

Postby MyLux_08 on Tue, 18 Mar 2014 6:05 +0000

Hi all,

I've now cut the hooks of the back seat in my dual cab and have a folding seat yeyyyyy :D , I do fair bit of hunting around NSW.
Previously I've just put my rifles on the back seat which is lame because if I need to take mates then they'd have to hold my rifles (rifle takes priority over mates hahaha), but now thanks to this trick i have enough space behind the seat.

Now my question is has anyone else done this i.e built a gun rack behind the seat? pictures of it would be nice or if you have some idea please share.

Cheers
Arran

Well after posting i've thought about a few ideas:

Make use of the existing bar because it's already got holes which U shaped metal straps can be bolted on

the measurements i've done tells me 2 guns can fit there comfortably

So if we make 2 pieces that roughly look like the figure below

where I've marked number 1 bolts onto the metal bar and number 2 can be a plastic bushing so it doesn't rattle

obviously at this stage quite basic but im sure we can make it better as we go on

A mate made up some L shape brackets and mounted the rubber Y style gun holder clamps on them. Bolted through the back wall tho.

thanks guys, Bigfoot where did you get the last picture from because that looks similar to what I'd be doing and I can;t figure out what he's used to stick it onto the back wall

No detail, scroll half way down.

You can use 3M VHB adhesive its extremely strong once cured for 24 hours, there is videos on youtube of it being stronger than riverts and holding a fat american upside down whilst suspended in the air.

I reckon if you simply glued those plastic hooks to the clean painted sheet metal with roof and gutter silicone they would very likely be strong enough for two rifles. Easy to do. If it doesn't work, they wont get damaged - just back to the drawing board.

Wouldn't take my chances, build it right and never drop a rifle, let alone losing an excellent zero or damaging the sight.

I'd have some dense foam around the barrel and butt to take out any shock from driving.

You could also glue a piece of plywood to the back wall with Liquid Nails or a polyurethane adhesive (Sika etc) and then screw fix your holder bracket to it
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!

Actually i'm thinking of carrying them in their cases so I'll put them on the rack with them inside the soft cases so even in case of banging around it won't stuff up my zeros but that'd mean i'd need longer U shape holders and probably a strap to hold them tight in place

Cops would love that, especially when your licence plate comes up and shows you own firearms and pull you over to check your licence.

Carry mine in a pelican rifle case with a combination and two separate locks.

EDIT: I see your a kiwi, different story!

crazy how it takes me so long to get around to doing things, now that I have a few rifles I really need this so going back to the last picture in Big foots first post the brand is called rugged and it doesn't need any screws bolts etc
